Kind of funny that Beach is only 100k cheaper than Turco.... THATS why I was pissed off about the Scott signing. Hopefully he gets traded.[/quote]

Why the Scott angst? If the Hawks trade him, the guy coming back is making $512K or more, so what's the big deal? He's a guy who supposedly can play both forward and defense, and he can hold his own in the fisticuffs department. I haven't seen him play, so maybe he's a stiff, but his 512K isn't causing us any financial difficulty that I can see.

Q seemed pretty high on him during his seminar at the Convention yesterday. He also said he will start out on D.

Honestly, I seriously doubt he's (Scott) on the roster come opening night. He'll get sent to the Hogs and picked up off waivers and end up in the East with all the other goons.

Wow, is all I can really say.

Some of you guys really need to take off your Niemi-colored glasses and look at this from a TEAM and LOGICAL perspective.

1) Turco at 1.3M for next season is a STEAL. His puckhandling ALONE is worth that much. Philly offered him almost three for ****'s sake. It says something that a guy like Turco will come here for a discount of more than a million.

2) Turco's age doesn't play into this AT ALL. The guy isn't going to play seventy games for us. He likely won't even have to play FIFTY. Crawford will get a chance this year to play between thirty and forty games, and Turco will be well rested come playoff time. He's also not going to see anywhere NEAR the number of shots he saw last year. His age doesn't fucking matter. We have the best defensive system in the NHL, and, in many people's opinions, the best defensive corps. He will be fine.

3) Turco played more games in 2008-2009 than Niemi has played in HIS ENTIRE CAREER. He has also won a Vezina, is ten times the puck handler Niemi is, and had a better save percentage last year, playing for a Dallas team that sucked ass defensively. Nuff said.

4) Niemi would have been here for ONE YEAR, and we would have gone through this shit ALL OVER AGAIN. Zito is a world class jag-off, and there is no reason to believe Niemi would have signed a cap-friendly contract next season. ESPECIALLY if he put up another great season, which he likely would, playing behind the best defense in the NHL. Zito was asking for four million THIS year for ****'s sake! What would he have demanded next year? You can blame ZITO for this entire debacle.

As far as the Hawks letting him walk as a UFA? Good. That is more of a **** YOU to Zito, than Niemi. By letting him walk, they force Zito to work on contracts with teams AGAIN. If they did a sign and trade, his job was done for a year. By letting him walk, Zito now has to work out contracts with the teams that want his client's services. Maybe the Hawks feel that the rest of the NHL feels the same way they do about Niemi? That he's a good goalie with a lot of potential, but he's simply not worth ~3 mil per season yet. How funny would it be if we see Niemi sign a one year deal at LESS than the 2.75M per season? How funny would it be to see Niemi regress next year, playing behind a team that doesn't jump on his massive rebounds like our EXTREMELY FAST defense does? Zito may have fucked his client in more ways than one with this.

I'm upset to see Niemi go, but I FULLY understand why it had to be done. Swapping Niemi at 2.75M for MARTY TURCO at 1.3M is a fucking no-brainer, and it makes us a better TEAM. Anything Turco gives up to Niemi in the net, he MORE than makes up for with his puck handling. Expect Turco to put up some points this season....

All I can say is that I am glad to see we got someone who doesn't suck, we didn't over pay for him, and he and his agent want to win more than be payed through the nose.

Looks like the Turco era will be a nice one, even if it is just for one or two years. On top of that Corey can finally get a real opportunity and maybe even step into the starter role where he will stay for many years to come. I know that some folks are not sold on him, but he's still young, he's big, and we just don't know if he will be good in the NHL yet. ~10 limited try-outs don't really say much.

More Marty Talk:

I'm in St. Andrews on a trip we have had planned for the last eight months or so and it's been fun, but I think this day has overshadowed anything we can do," Turco said. "Before the playoffs started this was a team I looked at knowing I was going to be an unrestricted free agent."

...

"To say there wasn't anxious times, obviously I'd be lying," Turco said, "but the trust in myself and the belief from my family, and the chance to have my kids watch their dad be the happiest, now that's being a Blackhawk. Waiting didn't seem that difficult, and it comes with trust that I have in myself."

Don't know why I thought he had. lol

Regardless, people are acting like this is a downgrade. I just don't see it that way, especially when you take into consideration the cap savings.

My favorite teams
  1. Portland Timbers
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
He didn't. The last two years the Stars played for the cup he played in the IHL for the K-wings.

However, something I'm waiting to see--I wonder what his mask will look like.

I've alwasy been a fan of mask-art, and I'm curious to see what he'll have playing for us.

I know minor on the list of important things...

Know what the worst part of this is? If not for Niemi and his stupid fucking arbitration, we probably keep Ladd.

Turco is an upgrade. He'll have a great year. He plays well vs Vancouver.. 3 shutouts or something like that a few years ago in a playoff series...

Yep, I agree with you, though, apparently, we are in the minority. I guess I just haven't seen the "washed up" Turco that everyone else is claiming to have seen. He is still one of the top puck handling goalies in the league.

I've always been a supporter of Crawf. In fact I wanted to give him a shot over Niemi last year. Turco seems to be a solid goalie and he is cheap. I have no problem with Turco and Crawford. We'll see how some of the other moves work out but I like this one.
