Why would anyone feel that Niemi playing here would be a personal attack to Hawks fans?

Hockey is a bisness and sometimes we are reminded of this. Niemi and agent are doing what they feel is best for his career. Are they right? Doesnt matter, not our career.

But to take it personally? A bit over the top dontcha think?

Damn, I thought we all finally agreed that the contracts were McD's fault for screwing up the QO's?

I thought it was the Assistant GM's job to get those out? At least that's what I thought I read from the people on these boards who know what's up.

Not taking it personally but yes I know I'm probably being too emotional and over the top and you stated - it's only because I care. When you win a cup you want to keep as much of that intact as possible. I need some decaf :)

Sorry if I upset anyone but I'm pretty ticked about how this went down. Niemi had a chance to keep this thing together and sign a cap friendly deal and chose not to. That bothers me. Perhaps when I calm down and put my emotions aside I'll ease up on Niemi. But right now I'm mad.
It's ok to be mad but put this into perspective. If you want to be angry with someone try Zito.

Versteeg and Buff had large contracts already in place. They were not up for new deals and therefore they had to get dealt to make cap room. Not even close to Niemi's situation.
You're not making any sense. I'm sorry, but you're just not. If I'm right in what you're saying, it's only because Niemi is the last to sign that he -- and no other player -- should have given the Hawks a more cap-friendly hit? Buff and Versteeg could have done that last year and didn't. Hammer could have done it this year and didn't. Yet you apparently hate and want to boo ONLY Niemi. Pure silliness.

I can't remember what the King finally decided for us, so... screw them both.

I have several Customers in Dallas. They are NOT happy. 1.3 mil is a STEAL for Turco.

This is a honest question here, how much does the hawks walking away from a seemingly manageable but very tight 2.75 number, a number that was given to him by an arbitrator, hurt Niemi in negotiating with other teams? I don't think he can go out there and get a deal that is going to pay him 2.75 when it's already be determined that's the max he's worth next year. I feel very bad for him, not only is he going to get shipped to (most likely) a shitty team, but he'll be doing it for at the most very close to that 2.75 mil don't you think? When you think about it, he was in a no win situation by going into arbitration. So does he get signed for more than that?

I can't believe Zito just walked or out priced him off the SC team. What an ass.

My gut tells me Edmonton might jump on niemi and I dont see him getting what he wanted at all. The league knows hes not Halak and should be paid like it. I know Halak makes more but niemis camp was trying to compare the two.

It's a good question. My guess, though, is that Niemi is more concerned about a multi-year deal than about the strict number. If he could get $2.75MM for 4 years, he might be okay with that.

I agree with you completely, though, that going to arbitration was a worse idea for Niemi than it was for the Hawks. I've heard for a while now that the Hawks have had some kind of understanding with Turco so they've pretty much always had a back-up plan. I have no idea what Niemi's back-up plan will be. I think there's a not-so-terrible chance that he'll go to Europe. I just don't know.

Agent Bill Zito said "there was no specific multi-year offer discussed" between #Blackhawks & Antti Niemi. GM Stan Bowman said there was.

about 1 hour ago via web .Antti Niemi's agent, Bill Zito, said 4 teams called right after #Blackhawks announced they were walking away from goalie. And later a 5th.

If arbitration was for a longer term (yes I know they don't do that) then I could see that figure going down, but in my opinion (while I know not official) the fact that they already turned down a 2.2 3 year deal with the team that he just won a CUP with, pigeon holes him a bit. Should be interesting to see. I wish the hawks could just resign him honestly.

We'll see I guess, it's what he's paid to say. he's going to have to work harder now for Niemi than any other client in the offseason because he even screwed himself with other clients on this.

Edmonton and the Caps were the teams I heard over the weekend.

He may be saying that just to 'build' the market for Niemi - to show that everyone else out there is clawing after him.

McD just proved over the weekend why the Cubs couldn't win with him there...if he can't keep his damn mouth shut!

A good goalie is lost and for what? not even a bag of pucks!

I'm not sure with Huet still here, and small cap, you do a sign and trade. Maybe they were afraid other teams wouldn't take him if they did that.

Not sure what Mcdonough has to do with it. There was a rumor all weekend Turco was going to be signed if the deal was over 2.5.
