No, its not. Because now the Hawks have about 3mil to play with - which obviously is the goal, so they can fill the roster out with competant players- not 500K AHL talent - like you'd have to, as well as have cap space for callups. In order to have that same space - Sharp would have had to been moved - not Kopecky and 1.2mil. That would have done nothing.
What are the cap hits of Skille, Markarov, Bickell, and Dowell. News Flash for PMS- the entire 4th line plus will still have cap hits near the minimum. The same players you've defended in other threads are no longer competant? BTW, the irony that you misspelled competent is not lost on me.

Time to let this die. Have the last word. Chow baby.

Perhaps, but we didn't lose 9 players last offseason like we have now.
Yes, but we had Bolland and Hossa hurt at the time, we had big time goaltending concerns, and we had the RFA fiasco.

We lost a lot of talent this year, but nothing that cannot be replaced to a level that retains our team competitiveness.
I'm hoping for 2 things now with Niemi

1) He signs for LESS than the amount the Hawks offered and LESS than the $2.75M won in arbitration.

2) That wherever he signs and if it's a team that comes to Chicago this coming season, we all boo the hell out of him. Standing ovation of boos would be in order. This guy gave the finger to Hawks fans and Chicago and I'm ticked. He's no longer welcome in Hawk town.
You don't have to be a bandwagoner to be a little bit pragmatic. Last year's team won the Cup and had 52 wins and 112 points. Even if the guys coming in were every bit as skilled as the ones departing (and who's to say they aren't, but the guys coming in are very inexperienced compared to the ones departing), don't you even worry a little bit about chemistry? Let's face it. The guys leaving this team were damn good players too. Without them we don't win last year. This was a TEAM effort. Yes, the core is back and that's great, but I have to think we take a little step back next year. Just a little. Yes, we should make the playoffs with ease and yes, I think we could contend. But there hasn't been a repeat cup winner since 97-98. Its damn hard to repeat, even harder when you have about 8-9 new faces in the lineup.

On one hand, I'm glad there is turnover on the team because it keeps guys hungry. I don't think there is a chance the 10-11 Hawks become complacent. However, to achieve more than 112 points next year I think is a stretch.

I don't think any knowledgeable fan thinks the Hawks will "suck" next year, but I'm sure there are those like me who are taking more of a wait and see approach.
Before I get flamed this is regarding the regular season  :

Guys we lost, and we lost a ton..... Burish, didn't play most of the season not in the Finals. Fraser, huge fan but replaced easily by probably a more talented guy. Eager, again loved him and what he brought, but one more serious concussion and he's done, also was hurt a big chunk of the season. Buff, his great start was nowhere to be found, BUT someone will need to take his place in the playoffs. Versteeg, if two of the young guys can replace his production it'll be fine, his production will also be replaced by a full year of Hossa and a year older Kane and Toews. Ladd, he's one guy I don't know how he will be replaced, Kopecky will step up in his role maybe? Last, Sopel will be a huge loss in the post-season, regular season whoever is in the 5-6th D spot will probably be just as productive.

Goaltending just got a fucking HUGE upgrade, Huet played 48 games, Turco>Huet on an off night.

And look at the guys we have coming back, if this were a college football team who just won a championship no one would be talking about the guys who left, they'd be saying, we have our top 5 scorers, top 4 defenseman, and a better goaltender for next season......

Reading most of your posts it's obvious. You'd boo Niemi. Thank god you don't sit anywhere near me so I wouldn't have to call you what I'd call you.

A little harsh don't you think. Weren't you the one who said in a post recently that Niemi had moved down several notches in your book based on what he's done to the Hawks this offseason? How is that any different than me saying I'm ticked with him too and would boo his ass?

Again, you may be right, but I'll be very happy with anything north of 100pts. I doubt there are favorable odds in Vegas for us to get back to 110+ and I think I would take the under on that bet right about now. I just don't know what the Stalberg's, Visnievskiy's, Skille's, Lalonde's and Leddy's of the world are going to give to this team next year to predict another 112 point season.

My favorite teams
 1. Portland Timbers
 1. Chicago Blackhawks
I refuse to boo Niemi, Ladd, Versteeg, Eager, Frasier, Byfuglien, Madden, Burish, or anyone else that was on our team unless they pull a Wiz and cheapshot one of our players.

Say what you will about Niemi's decision, but either he thinks that He has been made immortal with his name on the Grail, and now wants the payday, or Zito put that idea in his head.

Turco is more valuable at 1.3M than Niemi is at 2.75. And that's not maligning Niemi at all. He proved he was good enough and made the saves he needed to. I wish him the best of luck with his future endeavours and will cheer him unless he decides to do the McSorely Manoeuver on Kane.

Because, quite simply, Ron would never boo any member of this team that contributed to its first Cup win in 49 years. Its a terrible thing to say that you would do so, given you don't know what advice (or lack thereof) he was given in this whole thing.
