For fucks sake.

Hendry was not qualified as an RFA. He's now a UFA. This was most likely done to get Hendry at a lower contract. Bowman has been quoted as saying the Hawks will sign him(Big hint for you-there's a thread about it on this board). It was posted on this board that Hendry was at the convention.

Although it does not matter any more, a move of Kopecky at 1.2 and bringing in another forward at 600K brings the roster to 21.

Challenged? Coming from the poster that...

1) Thought trading Keith for Phanuef was a good idea.

2) Believed Green was more deserving of the Norris than Keith.

3) Wanted to have Kovie on the Hawks at the trade deadline.
So Hendry will sign for less than 650K since its a thread on this board, I guess its true. I wonder if he and his agent know he's taking a pay cut.

Yep...I brought up trading Keith in a thread - and did you read the thread, or one line? At the time, it was being discussed that the Hawks would never be able to resign Toews, Kane and Keith....and all was being talked that Kane would go - so I talked about "what if Keith was the one to go"

And I believed Green deserved to be nominated, yep. As did everyone else that watches hockey. Being nominated meant he could win, and I listed why he was deserving, because some say "no way he deserved to be there". So listing his accomplishments was blasphemy, I guess.

Yep, I thought Kovalchuk would have been a good addition at the time. I talked of moving Versteeg and Barker to get him. So what?

I'm still waiting to see this 21 man roster filled out if they kept Niemi and his 2.75mil - and somehow this be a better team than what they'll now fill with a goalie makin 1.45mil less.

35
He turns 35 later this month (Aug 13), Frank, so he'll be 36 going into NEXT (11-12) season.

I'm not booing the guy. Are you going to boo Hammer because he signed an offer sheet and ended up getting more from the Hawks than they really wanted to pay? If not, then why boo Niemi?

I don't blame Niemi. He is a Cup-winning goalie and it's risky for him to sign any one-year deal at this point, or to sign for a lowball amount. Why isn't he entitled to get what he thinks he's worth, the same way Hammer -- and even Keith, Toews, and Kane -- did? Bottom line, the Hawks had only so much to pay him and Niemi wanted more. No reason to be bitter over that. I wouldn't have signed for $2MM if I were Niemi, either.
Hammer situation was totally different than Niemi. San Jose came out of left field with that offer and he signed it - I have no problem with that. What I do have a problem with is how Niemi and Zito kept us held hostage this summer over this contract and were NOT willing to sign a cap friendly deal to keep more of this team together. I'm upset at Niemi right now - if he doesn't want to be here then fine, there's the door.

I remember similar differences of opinion when Havlat and Lang were let go/traded as well. I'd say it turned out alright.

Blackhawks will be fine.

Letting Niemi go was a painful but necassary decision. You can thank Zito for it. We gain much needed cap room once Huet is assigned to the minors/KHL; nearly 4 million if my math is correct (we are 1,703,256 over now with 18 signed, minus 5,652,500 when Huet comes off the cap). That gives Scotty alot of room to tweak the roster.

I just got a mental image of a sperm wearing a Hawks sweater.
Funny, I saw that image when Karpovtsev played for the Hawks.

Ok, well why the hell would we care if he's turning 36 going into next season (11-12)? He won't be on our team then.

Next season to me is 10/11.

F'n off season. Hurry up and end so we can see some hockey.

Now that's a completely different discussion than your with Niemi the Hawks lose Sharp post.

Keep in mind folks, that Turco is plan A. But there are options if Plan A fails, including plan B (Craw), or plan C or D (making a trade if plan A and B fails, or Toivenen).

Also, keep in mind what happened to last year's Vezina and Calder winners (Thomas and Mason).

Be glad that the Hawks did not grossly overpay for a good goalie simply because he won a Stanley Cup like they did with Khabby.

Right. He stuck it to us. Come on! It's an f'n business and teams stick it to players just as much. He's well within his rights to get as much as he can.

Sooo... i'm going to pretend that Turco signed for less because Niemi is going to use his new found UFA to resign with the hawks a longer term deal for less of a cap hit and all will be right in the world... But I don't think he's allowed to sign with the hawks now, and I still think we'd have cap issues. But Niemi and Turco would look mighty nice back there.

Agreed - and we all deal with pain in a different manner I guess. I'm emotionally spent on this Niemi saga and I feel the pain as anger towards him and his agent. Others here have nothing but love for Niemi and will forever cherish him. I just can't do that.

No, its not. Because now the Hawks have about 3mil to play with - which obviously is the goal, so they can fill the roster out with competant players- not 500K AHL talent - like you'd have to, as well as have cap space for callups. In order to have that same space - Sharp would have had to been moved - not Kopecky and 1.2mil. That would have done nothing.

So Niemi should have signed a cap-friendly deal even though Hammer didn't? Sorry, I see zero difference between the two, offer sheet to Hammer notwithstanding. Nobody freaking forced him to sign it -- he had to choose to sign it. Fact is that each player tried to get the most he could, and the Hawks couldn't afford both.

I see no reason at all to boo Niemi over this.

Are you two years old?

The guy helped us win the Stanley Cup. He is forever a Hawk and his name on the Cup proves such.
yeah seriously dude, are you two? or a bandwagon jumper. Don't hate man. Its business which is a sad part of a sport we love. I hate to see Niemi go and did not expect it, but to sit their and say you will boo, puts you in the dumbass list of wanna be hawks fans who just came for the ride like 15 thousand other fans. Niemi, Im sure wanted to stay. Zito acted like any other money hungry sports agent. god I hate fans like you. With your comment, you seem like a fan who moves on from one great sports team to another.

Last year's off season was arguably worse than this year's (Tallon's firing, Kane's cab ride) and we won the Cup. The sky isn't falling here people.

No, 36. Turco turns 35 in 10 days, so therefore, he will be 36 on August 12, 2011, which is before the opening night in early October of that year.
I fix.

Seems I am the only one happy about Turco...

So be it.

I for one am stoked. Shit happens in the bidness of hockey and it happened here. As it does for countless players and countless fans.

Now....

Do we have a number yet?!

Perhaps, but we didn't lose 9 players last offseason like we have now.
