So will they say good-bye, or will they still sign him for trading purposes?

Who are his potential suitors? Washington? Florida? Atlanta?

Waaaa.

This coming from someone who was clamoring for them to trade for Turco at the TDL last year, not having confidence in Niemi or Huet.

You crack me up buddy!
I wanted Turco because I was afraid you're buddy McDick for Brains was going to push Huet down our throats. Lucky for all of us he stunk it up so bad in Columbus Q had no choice but to go to Niemi down the stretch. Now you're cracking yourself up.

I like the rest enjoyed Niemi, nothing bad to say. It is his career and he and his agent are doing what they feel is best for it.

With that said?

My only question now is...

WILL HE WEAR 35?!?! I GOTTA ORDER MY JERSEY!!!

NHLPA is saying the Blackhawks agreed to the arbitration award so it will be a trade.

Let's cut to the chase shall we.................what is the REAL reason we can't afford Niemi at 2.75 mil? Because we fucked up the Hammer negotiations and Doug Wilson forced our hand. If any of you think 2.75 is too much for Niemi you're dillusional.
Niemi's worth will always be debated, what can't be debated is $2.75 is too much for Niemi to be on the HAWKS. Hammer was giving $3.5 because the Sharks forced our hand but I don't think we fucked up the negotiation with him, if you ask me 100 times to choose between a 23 yeard old top 4 defenseman w/ a CUP and a 27 year old goalie who played a total of 60 games in his career w/ a CUP (NOT DISCREDITING HIM) I would choose the defenseman 101 times.

Turco has a cup as well.

Uh huh.

either way Niemi or Turco I'm ok. Niemi still had some time to prove he was the real deal IMO. 64 NHL games is not enough to be in a position to "demand" anything.

And not one person has slammed Niemi here. Not one. We all like him as our goalie. So you calling people out for nothing is total bullshit.

Perhaps someone can explain to me why wgntv/com/sports has nothing on Turco signing with the Hawks? Or why Comcast SportsNite, 20% of which is owned by the Hawks, has nothing on this? Chicago Breaking Sports which is run by WGN...nothing.

Yup.

Doug Wilson shafted the hawks.

Bitter about the 4-0 sweep because there is no way in Hell he's getting Neimi.

Holy crap, if you want to read some ridiculous comments regarding this, go here:

http://thenhlarena.com/index.php?s=57f8 ... try1259847

"My spidey senses tell me the Hawks are about to deal someone and my guts say Hossa. "

"

If anyone else goes (other than Niemi), I suspect it might be Seabrook.
"

:D :D

I think losing Niemi will hurt us. He really does have a lot of potential - "potential" being the key word. He bailed us out in many games last year and in the playoffs. It is unbelievably difficult to find goalies who steal games for you.

Turco is a decent goalie - his lifetime numbers are very, very good, but I wonder if at 34 he's got any good years left to him.

Dan Roan was at the convention with his buddy Mcdonough this morning? God I hope Roan is incorrect because he SUCKS as a sports reporter. But I doubt he's wrong.

Is 111 games over 3 seasons (77 last season) enough time for someone else to "demand" 3.5 million a season; the same amount that Brent Seabrook (an Olympian) earns? It's called POTENTIAL. You sign players for POTENTIAL. Let's play apples to apples; not apples to bananas.

The only thing I'm puzzled about is this -- don't the Hawks lose all kind of trading leverage with Niemi by signing Turco BEFORE signing and trading Niemi? Any team would know that, by signing Turco first, we HAVE to unload Niemi, therefore we have no bargaining power. Maybe I don't understand...

Potential?

Seabrook - Gold Medal, Stanley Cup - 5 full NHL Seasons, and Top 2 D-Man in the NHL at the age of 25

Hammer - Stanley Cup - 111 games over 3 seasons, got $3.5 million becuase we were FORCED, he didn't demand that.

Niemi - Stanley Cup - 60 games of NHL experience at the age of 27

I think based on potential I would feel more comfortable giving Seabrook the benefit of the doubt in that category. He was signed when he was 23, not 27.

Perhaps. But its not as if Niemi is some hack, if multiple teams bid for him it will improve his worth alone. If the Caps offer a 3rd round pick, and the Oilers want Niemi, they won't give a shit about the Hawks cap situation, they'll up their price.
