Even if that's true what's the point dude? They couldn't keep him. It's not that he isn't worth that money, its that the Hawks can't take on that contract without putting strain on the rest of the team the entire season. Its not the Hawks saying go to hell Niemi. As for what other fans think.......who cares?

tHATS NOT DEMANDING? wtf ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT.

ISNT SIGNING AN OFFER SHEET FROM ANOTHER CLUB SLIGHTLY WORSE THAN TAKING YOUR CURRENT CLUB TO ARBITRATION? ANYTIME YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT APPLES AND ORANGES BANANAS BULLSHIT, ILL JUST CONTINUE READING YOUR POSTS AND ITS SPEWS OFF THE PAGE.

WHY DO YOU ASSUME ITS ONLY 1 YEAR? WHERE DOES IT SAY NIEMI DOESNT RESIGN AFTER 2010-11? BECAUSE THE RULING IS FOR 1 YEAR AUTOMATICLALY MEANS NIEMI IS GONE AFTER 10-11?
He will be a UFA, and there has been no indication that he will be affordable for the Hawks. He and Zito wanted $4M, there is no chance they'll be able to afford him.

Sorry but you are making no sense, signing an offer sheet and going to arbitration are two completely different things and isn't an "apples to apples" comparison.

No one is debating whether its worse or not, but San Jose sending that to Hammer completely screwed us -- Hawks could have walked I'm sure Hammer was ready to be a Shark. If not for that, Niemi might of been staying in Chicago.

Chill out. A small reminder by the way per board rules:

* ALL CAPS

I know, I know…everyone wants to be heard. With so many topics and posts, it’s hard to stand out from the crowd. But did you know that TALKING IN ALL CAPS online indicates that you are shouting? It’s a very aggressive way to post and it doesn’t come off as being very friendly. Moderators can (and do) delete any topics or posts that use ALL CAPS.

Sucks that Niemi couldn't be had. He may not have been Espo or Hall, but he was a good goaltender.

That being said...Welcome to Chicago, Turco!

P.S. He likely won't wear 35--if I'm not mistaken, that number was retired for Espo.

Nothing is confirmed at this time. Be it what happens with Niemi or Turco signing. Someone jumped the gun. We'll hear what happens with Niemi today, or if they will sign or walk-away at least.

Turco for under 3 mil, thats unbelievable, under 2? Jesus, this guys wants to win NOW. And I loved Niemi, but Turco is better IMO, and cheaper, best signing of the off-season.
Careful what you wish for. Turco didn't sign on the cheap because it was the Hawks. He signed on the cheap because for the most part there was no demand out there for him. I was convinved these past 2 seasons watching Turco that his NHL playing days are over. You better pray he has something left in the tank or this is going to be a very long season.

Does the arbitrator here pick one side or the other OR does he actually decide the salary? i.e. Hawks came in at $2M, Niemi's camp came in at $3M and the arbitrator decided on $2.75M. OR, does it work like MLB in which the arbitrator can only pick one side or the other? i.e Hawks came in at $2M, Niemis' camp came in at $2.75M and the arbritator ruled for Niemi's side at $2.75M?

Me too! If true, the Turco deal is a brilliant move for Stan and the Hawks but to my mind, the single best thing Stan has done this offseason is getting the returns he has when we've known all along the roster would take some hits. Gotta give the man his props in nabbing The Hockey News' "2010 Future Watch" issue 49th, 50th, and 51st best prospects in their rankings of Morin, Stahlberg, and Vishnevskiy! That's just plain fucking CHOICE! Not to mention retroactive props for scoring Leddy in the Barker deal. It's all especially gratifying after reading various hockey and/or team forums for months and seeing that there were straight-up fools who actually thought some sort of league-wide collusion was gonna go on between the other 29 teams and that the Hawks would just be low-balled for their talent or else would just have to take other teams fucking junk parts for cap relief. . ."Psych!"
That's a nice post.

Arbitrator can choose whatever number he sees fit.
Whats the point of trading someone like Kopecky or perhaps some other piece just to keep Niemi for one year? I don't understand the logic in that.
There is no logic in that. Simple fact, AT THIS TIME taking Turco over Niemi when Turks is a mill less is a no brainer given our cap situation.

Keep in mind folks that the regular season is now the preseason. Nobody can predict the future, especially when it comes to goalies who are notorious for being having one good season or playoff run.

Niemi's comment "What does this mean?" suggests that he has no idea it means he is not going to be with the Hawks. Most likley He was not told that not taking the Hawks offer meant that he probably would be traded.

All that matters is the playoffs, and Hawks are guaranteed to get in. If neither Turco or Crawford show that they can be a reliable netminder, we'll trade for a guy at the deadline.

#35 happens to be retired.

I saw send Niemi to Rockford to keep Huet company. It'll be the best goaltending that league has ever seen. Then when his cap hit goes down 20 or so games in, maybe try to find a way to bring him back up and have turco be his back up. A boy can dream huh?

Hahaha!

But seriously... do want Huet to commit suicide when Niemi steals an AHL gig away from him?

Although a Stanley Cup and Calder Cup in back to back years might raise his price!!!!
