Lets say that Turco is stellar this coming season. After that he is more then likely gone

with who next in line? Crawf, Toivonen? Not a chance. So next year we go through this all over again playing for another starting goalie when we have a rookie goalie (who won the CUP) that has the long term potential to be like any of those you are discussing. Instead we are going to be chasing vets at the end of their careers.

Yep, nice moves by our back office and if the rumors of Niemi just becoming an UFA then this is an EPIC failure by the Chicago Blackhawks.
Turco at less than 1.5 million > Niemi at 2.75 million. Thats a no brainer. I'd much rather give up Niemi.

A million things can happen before next year. Ok ok sure I FINALLY get to see Turco as much as I want, I know, my man crush, but next year is next year.

IHF, we haven't even played this season yet and you're worrying about our goaltender for the following season. There will be tenders available.

This had to be done to field a full roster of 20 and still have room for injuries. It's 100% cap move.

As far as the letting him walk instead of sign and trade I'm sure we'll hear why soon enough.

You have NO CLUE how difficult the negotiations with Niemi and Zito were, none of us do. So what makes you think that the Hawks wanted to do this all over again next year? Would you be more pissed if he played here for $2.75 this year then wanted $5 or $6 million after this year then walked before next year?

Giving him up for nothing would be a failure. They should have at least tried to get an asset in return.

They might have tried and couldn't get anything in return. We don't know. Maybe at some point today they'll address it.

To those of you crying over losing a Stanley Cup "winning" goaltender, I have one word -- Khabibulin.

I would rather have Niemi then Turco, that said...

Turco @ $1.0 - $1.5 gives you a way better TEAM on the ice then Niemi @ $2.75. Niemi not being on the Hawks is as much Niemi's and Zito's fault as it is anyone elses. How can anyone complaining that he is gone not see that?

Turco will be great playing in Chicago's system... Great puck handler... Solid goaltender.... Wonder how many shutouts Turco would have had if he was a hawk last season.. Probably more than 7.
Get over it Maiden. Niemi (and his agent) decided to leave the Hawks. The organ-i-zation didn't do anything to push him out the door. If anything, they tried like hell to keep him with all the recent moves.
Turco's family was saying he would be a Hawk 3 weeks ago.

you know what happens to players strong arming the hawks. Ask any number of them.

Sorry, once I heard "arbitration" there was a little place that said good bye.
You ain't said nothin' but a WORD! Has any player EVER taken the Hawks to arbitration and remained with the club to tell tale of it? The writing was indeed basically on the wall.
