And I"m going to ignore that bookie you big meanie. How is that show, I've never seen it.

Whaaaa? You told me not to post without at least mentioning a TV show and that's what popped into my head.

In any event Globe Trekker is the BEST travel show EVER! Their trips are largely unattainable in their too-cool exoticism for "normal" travelers but still it is wonderful to look at if you suffer from wanderlust, lol. Plus, you get to develop a fondness for certain "traveler hosts" over others and such so you want to see where the series sends them in their farflung adventures. Perhaps the only travel show that could be argued was better was when there was a fucking fantastic TV series based on the The Rough Guide series of awesome travel books back in the 90's but it was so short-lived it would be kind of unfair to contrast it to Globe Trekker. Both of those series share in having stellar production values. In terms of travel series with information that can have actual practical application for normal folk Rick Steve's Europe is the best even though it's the most vanilla fucking delivery ever.

I think I'd suffer them, and all reality TV for that matter, a bit better if they weren't overdon productions and the great unwash didn't treat them like the new religion of the ages.

Plus, for ****'s sake, I'm watching TV--I want a sense of unrealism/surreaism there! As far as I'm concerned there's only one Reality TV show on now, and it's season finale starts on June 15th at 7:00pmCDT. Everything else I want to see something out of the ordinary, like MXC/Takeshi's Castle!

For reality tv. I love Deadliest Catch, Ax-Men (though I hear all the drama is made up for the camera), Pawn Star, and Hardcore Pawn.

See how much fun we can be when we try.... please tell me globetreker is on HDnet or something in 1080.... I bet it is beautiful. I usually don't get into a lot of those exotic ones because they tend to vere toward the shock value and just do all the weird crazy stuff they can to try to show people how different it can be an almost scare people out of going there. Like if you go here you have to try this deadly custom, or eat this disgusting food...

You mean the fun we can have all summer calling each other assholes? {{{snickers}}}

The show is fucking GORGEOUS! For reals. Either that or it's just because no matter what I inherently salivate at the prospect of travel, heh. See. . .

Globe Trekker is only available in the US via PBS. So you can catch it either on WTTW or WTTW Create OR the neglected Chicagoland PBS station, WYCC. I have no idea if in turn if those stations are picked up and carried on other networks for satellite TV as I don't do any of that cable or dish shit. I watch it via PBS.

WTTW June GT Schedule: http://www.wttw.com/main.taf?p=1,64,1&programid=3413480

Otherwise, one would have to watch episodes via the GT channel on YouTube Rentals for a price: http://www.youtube.com/pilotguides#p/u

Which at $3.99 a pop isn't so horrible IMO if one just needs an episode here or there to download and record/burn for travel prep work and as an accompaniment to good old-fashioned travel guide B-O-O-K-S!

Regarding Game of Thrones. Wish Mr. Martin would publish more frequently. Feel like he is withholding the next book in the series so the HBO stuff can inflate his sales, which while good for him sucks for me. I've been waiting several years for the next installment.

Huge fan of the Wire, can't get into Treme, haven't watched too much, but nothing ever seems to happen but wallowing in their own self-pity...

The second season is much better than the first, IMO. I agree that there is not much happening, but it's not that kind of show. It's more about the characters and we see them doing their thing. Obviously it also offers commentary on issues, much like The Wire did. This season it's the corruption and profiteering on the rebuilding of NOLA.

Isn't the next book out this week?

I'm so far behind on Thrones... they're all dvr'd - just waiting til I have some time to get past ep 3!

Also watched the first BSG last night which was better than I thought it would be.

I'm not worried about folks ruining "Thrones" for me... but I'll get there.

And yeah, good call about BSG... in some ways, reminds me of Firefly (one of my favorite scifi shows ever).

BSG is one of my favourite shows ever. Best sci-fi show. Loved the gritty style and the aesthetic of the show. And honorable mention to Firefly as well, shame that it got the axe so soon.

I have Firefly on my list as well for streaming, but I haven't started it because it's so short and I don't want to get invested in it knowing their won't be that many.

I refuse to watch Firefly because I might like it and will be sad that there is only 1 season.

Yeah, that's basically how I feel... When it got shut down all I heard was about how awesome it was but was just like, yeah I bet it is, but well.... it got pulled early and despite all the internet petitions it still went down. So I just don't know if I should bother or not. I believe I heard it was one of those shows that had a big follow-up online with it's own episodes and such.

For a refreshing change of pace I am going to be succinct here. I will only add that you two are making a TREMENDOUS mistake. You CAN NOT even imagine. You are depriving yourselves to an EPIC degree. For reals. That. Is. All.

Don't forget to follow the series up with the Serenity film chaser. That's IMPERATIVE too.

I NEVER tire of watching Firefly's 14 episodes. Time has healed the all-too fresh for too long wounds now and the pining for more or for "what could have been" has dimmed. I just accept and treasure them for the 14 little jewels they are.

Book you just dont understand my TV depression levels. If I really like it and there's only 1 season I will be super sad so I cant do it. I loved the show Sports Nite (SitCom from ABC in the late 90s) when it was cancelled I was really bummed I loved that show it was smart and funny.

Did they at least finish it off knowing they weren't renewed? Or did it just kind of end and leave everything unfinished?
