Is it Halloween yet? I need a Walking Dead Fix. I've been Netflixing assorted zombie movies trying to tide myself over, but it isn't workin.

Uptown baby!
Book you just dont understand my TV depression levels. If I really like it and there's only 1 season I will be super sad so I cant do it. I loved the show Sports Nite (SitCom from ABC in the late 90s) when it was cancelled I was really bummed I loved that show it was smart and funny.

Come on Supra, I KNOW you can do it dude! Not everything in the Whedonverse can be 6 and 7 seasons long---I have come to accept that. Not related to Whedon (though unsurprisingly still FOX-tethered) I STILL have open wounds for my beloved Arrested Development and it had 2 and two-thirds seasons so if even I could finally come to a place of peace about Firefly, I know anything is possible some day. Now my feelings about FOX? Totally different---that network has CLEARLY been run for the last decade by some fucking monkeys in suits. Think of it this way---did you watch the original BBC The Office? Was your appreciation of it lessened by the fact that it only had 2 SUPER-short seasons and an X-Mas special? I know, it's different because Firefly was canceled abruptly but as I said before I am only going to say I think you are TRULY missing out by not getting on the bandwagon, becoming a Brown Coat and watching the series and film but it's your call ultimately.

Did they at least finish it off knowing they weren't renewed? Or did it just kind of end and leave everything unfinished?

They knew they had been canceled but it was more that they found out FOX didn't place an order for the "back-8" (though usually it's the back-9) and so production was just halted. They didn't get a creative chance to "finish it off" as you say because they had the episodes they had filmed in the can and that was thatt. It didn't end with cliffhangers or anything but it obviously wasn't wholly satisfying either. As a viewer one had to just "imagine" that life on the ship and for the characters just kept on with keeping on and that they just kept having adventures together. You didn't have any other choice. #14 was just an episode from 2/3's into a season so that's what it felt like. Granted, it was a KICKASS season though, LOL. The reason is stung SO MOTHERFUCKING HARD was that they were at a point where you felt they had truly gotten into a creative groove and had gotten their mojo on as opposed to say the very first couple of episodes and THEN it was snatched. It WAS HARD dude. I ain't gonna lie. Serenity doesn't attempt to wrap everything up in a nice bow (that's now how they rolled) either but it does give one peace of mind to see the characters and the ship again for one more stand-alone adventure.

Don't forget to follow the series up with the Serenity film chaser. That's IMPERATIVE too.

I NEVER tire of watching Firefly's 14 episodes. Time has healed the all-too fresh for too long wounds now and the pining for more or for "what could have been" has dimmed. I just accept and treasure them for the 14 little jewels they are.

AND... they've released a graphic novel giving us more info on Shepherd Book (any relation, Bookie?)...

There was an internet campaign to bring back the show and let Nathan Fillion buy the rights, but at this point, don't know if I'd want it - just wouldn't be the same (which is all I can say for those who haven't watched and aren't caught up)... and as much as I like Fillion, Joss needs control over the series and Fillion already has a job with the likable "Castle."

There's a yearly showing of Serenity on the big screen at the Portage Theater and I expect Bookie and Mass to be there this year and anyone else who wants to fly in. In a perfect world, Mass - you should get caught up on the show and wait to see Serenity at this event. More info here. I've gone with a buddy for the last couple of years. Glad they're doing Dr. Horrible again as well, it's for a good cause too.

I was talking to Count Dante a few weeks ago about Firefly and mentioned that I am shocked that Syfy hasn't tried to buy the rights and continue the show or redo it. Seems like a no brainer to me if it has such a cult following.

The problem is that "stuff" happened in the movie that might totally change the dynamic of the show... AND it's been like five years since it was cancelled... and Nathan Fillion and other cast members have moved on to other shows... the time may have passed to successfully start the show up again. I'd be more of a fan of another movie - even if it was made for cable. They could even test the waters to see if they can start a spin-off of some kind.

Could a different cast pull it off? And again if the cult following is as avid as I am led to believe. They would know what happened in the movie. Hell I've seen the movie.

I knew it had to do with the show but I just watched it as a stand alone movie and it was pretty good.

"Cults" remain loyal to the casts that made them love the series. If you need proof of that, look at all the backlash the producers/writers are getting for the "new" Buffy movie they are planning. Whedon's fans in particular don't like their shit messed with. Which leads me to believe another movie or related spin-off would do better and really only if Joss Whedon is involved.

Well, I'm no expert on the Chicago neighborhoods... but Portage Park?

I think it's on the NW side of Chicago. Bookie could probably tell you better. Like all good suburbanites, I let someone else drive when we go there.

Speaking of good shows...

I miss Drawn Together. Yes, I know it pretty much run its course and show like that get harder and harder to be offensive as time goes on, but man what it funny!

I am really at a loss as to why they are going this route---there can be only one Slayer and the role has clearly become synonymous with SMG. I would have thought the natural extension would be for them to do a film or series based on Whedon's "Fray" comics or some variation or tweaking of Fray. At least in those comics you're dealing with a futuristic Slayer who exists in her own mythology and there's no stepping on any Buffy toes.

Tell me about it - I think I said the same thing when I heard about it - "Why not just do a 'Fray' movie/show? Why do we have to reboot it and make it all twilighty?"

As I was looking on the site for the "Cant' Stop the Serenity" night it doesn't appear they're going to do a pre-party like they've done the last few... they used to auction off a whole bunch of cool Whedon-verse related stuff, too.

(coming from a guy who lived on the 4200 block of leavitt... as for all that other nerd stuff you guys are talking about I have no clue.

If im not mistaken did they not start making that show again(firefly)? I swear to god a couple weeks ago I saw it on and was baffled the info said "new" and not "repeat".

Alas, im pissed they are making a highlander "remake" movie I dont mind them doing a series based on other interesting characters. Which they essentially did with the series to begin with. They butchered the shit out of the series with the last movie they made. Its a franchise I would have rather they let die than ruin it with an ass movie. I truely hope one day they could and will totally redeem themselves, but I doubt it.

Also, speaking of ending a series in the middle of the action, i got caught up in the HBO series deadwood, only to find out it was cancelled unresolved in the 3rd season.

At least Rome serves as a great 2 season mini series since it actually has an end and tells a complete story and the point at which it ends makes complete sense.

After Octavian seizes power and becomes Augustus Roman history becomes much calmer for decades. I wish that Rome could have gone 5 seasons so the whole story of the fall of the Republic could be more detailed. But I have no complaints about Rome it was awesome did an excellent job of telling the story of Rome. The only real issues with Rome other than the Forrest Gump element of Pullo and Vorneus, was Attia was alive when Octavian had his triumph and you miss Octavians first wife who had his daughter. But awesome show.

A fox show I really was into was the Good Guys. Bradley Whitford and Colin Hanks were awesome in it. It only went one season and got the axe. But I really liked it.

The "new" episodes were Science Channel replaying the only season on the show and it was new to science channel.

Rome, man I loved that show, it got cancelled due to production being too expensive. I have used Spartacus: Blood and Sand to replace it.
