What cable provider do you have?</p>

 </p>

Comcast has a special going where it's only $4.99 for 6 months.  I had some other issues to clear up with my bill being wrong so I talked them into giving it to me free for 6 months then $4.99 for the next 6 months.</p>

 </p>

Definitely worth it.</p>

Time Warner.   I'm trying to decrease my monthly bill so I'm not interested in getting additional services.   I'd like to eventually get rid of cable TV anyway.</p>

Yup. It is too bad that Woody and Matthew are only doing one season. This is one of the best drama TV shows I have ever seen.

I would care if the show did not jump the shark...or basically pull a Lost and look to extend the series. I really do not care how it ends at this point because the story line(s) are just so stagnate and going "all over the place" to stretch the series. When one minor thing happens an episode, that it all it is.

Too bad, since it started off so well and should have been a 3-4 season show period.

For sure I don't have the same fervor for Walking Dead that I did for Breaking Bad.   Don't think I could sit and watch 10 hours straight the way I did with Breaking Bad (to catch up).   But you could do worse than watching Walking Dead for an hour at 11 pm on a Sunday night.  </p>

<span style="background-color:rgb(255,255,255);font-size:14px;">I love Woody and Matthew too (they are amazing in these roles), but I actually think it's great. This way the writers know that they have 8 episodes to tell the whole story. No cliff-hangers, no waiting to find out from the network if they're getting picked up for another season. This system actually makes for better serialized television. If they can rejuvenate the series every year that will be amazing. Imagine all the different actors they can get to be a part of it in the future.</span></p>

Okay. House of Cards acts like it's all fancy and good quality and shit, but c'mon? So much of it is cartoonish. Robin Wright is the best part of the show because she is an actual character with nuances to her personality. Spacey's Underwood is a cartoon villain. Like if Foghorn Leghorn was in a Bond movie. </p>

Yea, don't get me wrong as I love serials that will have a definitive end. I also like that the actors and characters will be changing from season to season.

But man, the future closed story seasons they can have with what they have established with their characters is amazing. Hell, it could be a series of movies...ok maybe not that.

I watched all 5 of the available episodes over the last 2 days. OMG is it fucking good. There's a few little things I have issue with that they could've polished to make the story better or more believable, but overall it's pretty amazing. Now I'm going back to watch the Inside the Episode videos because they help explain little things you might have missed. Some of them are pretty important.</p>

I haven't watched those yet but will. Anything to help unpack some of the mysteries and symbols.</p>

Also, the literary allusions and connections to the mythology are pretty cool. I've been reading up on it a lot since I started watching the show. This is a great piece on how it connects to Robert Chambers' The King in Yellow and also Lovecraft and other horror/weird genre writing.</p>

Yeah, buzzfeed also had a True Detective reading list that explained some of it as well. http://www.buzzfeed.com/lincolnmichel/a-true-detective-reading-list

The King in Yellow is available for free via the Gutenberg project. I downloaded, but haven't started reading it yet. I've also been enjoying reading the many reviews and fan pages with their theories. It helps bring the story together.</p>

This is one that I've seen mentioned a few times in different ways but this explanation summarizes it well. It's interesting to think about.</p>

"I'm waiting for the storyline of Hart's daughter to connect with the larger story of the cult. The incidents with the Barbie dolls, the explicit drawings, and the teenage menage-a-trois all seem to be set-ups for something. And Hart keeps saying how he was paying attention to everything else around him when the answer was in front of him all along. Could his daughter have been forced to be a participant in the cult when she was a kid? Hart says his worst sin was one of inattention...I'm guessing he'll pay pretty heavily for that by the show's end"</p>

 </p>

Also there's a pretty important note in the Inside the Episode 5 video from the creator. He mentions that the real reason Cohle drinks during the "interrogation" is because anything he says is now inadmissible in court.

I also have a theory for part of the story, but it doesn't really lead to an answer to crime. Might be a stretch of a theory, but at this point everything feels like a stretch.</p>

I know from watching the making of True Detective that Cohle and Hart end up working together again. I have a theory that they never stopped working together. They split ways knowing that the crime was unsolved but they couldn't reopen it because it would kill their previous story. Not to mention there's powerful people in the cult who are responsible for the killings. So they Cohle goes deep undercover again, like he did with Iron Crusaders. This allows them to work the case covertly. When the new investigation pops up with Cohle as a suspect it allows them to start working the case openly again.

So my theory didn't quite hold true. This last episode was kind of weak compared to the others.</p>

We accidently watched episode 5 first, because the HBO togo app on my phone is fuckign shit. anyway kinda amazing we didn't realize it when we watched it but then went back and watched 1 and 2. It's an interesting way to watch it actually. I keep watching and saying  they have 2-3-4 episodes till we catch up to the 5th, what are they going to fill it with? And they you watch and it's brilliant.</p>
