Updates to the Kane situation

Well, this thread has gotten completely derailed by the usual suspects.

This is of course good news for Kane and the Blackhawks (if true). Unfortunately, plenty of damage has already been done - right or wrong.

It will be interesting to see if a civil case is brought up against Kane. If it is, I fully expect a quick resolution and Kane will be out some cash, whether he did it or not, whether he played any part in it or not, etc. Sometimes, it is just best to make things go away and ensure that they can't be brought up again. Similar to how a company that wants to sell will usually take care of any lawsuits immediately, so they can simply move on, get on to the next step, and get where they want. People will think that if it gets to that point and if Kane pays to make it go away that he is guilty...but that certainly isn't the case.

Kane's lawyer was pretty adamant their was no settlement discussions and he would not go there. Will be interesting to see what happens regarding civil suit.

EDIT: It isn't like they can prove Kane had sex with her, but just cannot prove the crime of rape or sexual assault and thus they go to a civil case to try to get something out of what happened. She doesn't even have evidence that she had sex with Kane.

I don't think Kane gains anything going back at the alleged victim here but I'd really love to see him drag some of the media out into the light and make them answer for it some how. I don't know that he has any legal backing for it though? I believe libel or slander or whatever the **** it is, is just as hard to prosecute as rape?

He can hear his disdain for Zawaski as well though the soundboard. McNeil talks about hockey, what's that, he is not there now? Apparently he is on the Drive, who knew? That staff has 1 guy who knows hockey and it's the producer.

Thought ESPN isn't drastically better, they at least have 2 guys that know hockey on the air, just one can hardly be bothered to talk about it because he deems that uninteresting and Carmen just is uninteresting in all manner of value.

He only talks about football or occasionally baseball, but really he does know hockey to a decent degree, he just basically has no interest to talk about anything but football for more than a couple minutes.

For a person of fame, they'd have to prove "actual malice" to win any libel/slander/whatever cases. Actual malice means that Kane's lawyers would have to prove that a specific media member was out to get Kane by a) intentionally spreading misinformation or b) failing to report on information that they'd received which would've worked in Kane's favor.

It's a very hard thing to prove so it rarely happens. Can't think of any specific examples off the top of my head.

One would think the good news was that Kane wasn't in the news for anything but bringing the Cup to a children's hospital or some shit like that, but I guess that he didn't rape anyone is just as good.
