The ref behavior should be the canary in the coal mine.
At some point it is going to come out that every major Sports league in the United States sold their souls to the betting game.
They didn't try to allow betting on fair competition.
They purposefully began rigging outcomes, thru rule changes, officiating interference, and I'd argue the Owners themselves are building teams designed for narratives rather than to win games.
This isn't tinfoil hat nonsense, there are proven cases (see the cheating series on Netflix) where refs and players collaborate to fix betting outcomes.
The betting system got bigger, the cheating problem grew, and the money is flowing in so they have no reason to stop.
Pay the Owners, Pay the Refs, Pay the Players, Pay Everybody and they'll be happy to keep playing along.
I know I sure as fuck would take lifetime wealth opportunities if all I had to do was pretend nothing was amiss.
But somehow the people who make millions off professional sports are above all that.
Sure, okay.
