Miguel Cabrera

I dont like it. You can say 'take this guy outta their rotation and theyre done' for a lot of teams.

such as?

the thing that made verlander so dominant was the fact that if he took the plate it was(almost) a guaranteed win...his ability completely changes the offensive game plan...and again he was 1st in atleast 5 pitching categories

sure there are other cases for MVP...certainly cabrera is one..but verlander certainly deserved the award

they'rs more in the NL. Ian Kennedy for the DBacks. Shields is one in TB. Weaver, but the LAA sucked.

no love for the hitters had had monster years is all Im sayin. Sure theyll get their Silver Sluggers, but I think the Cy is enough for a SP.

I get that, only ever so often a SP does something that merits the MVP, but had the Tigers won the WS, then Id be fine with it.

They had to vote on the awards prior to the playoffs. Therefore you can't use postseason performance to evaluate players for awards.

this and it doesnt make sense that a player value immediately rises if the team wins the world series?

key word: team

what if he had a terrible postseason...the whole winning in the postseason thing is really arbitrary

I think it's okay for a pitcher to win the MVP if his season was incredible. It's arguable whether Verlander's season was historic, but at the very least him earning the MVP was defensible. You couldn't actually say the same for Dennis Eckersley in 1992, who won because he racked up a ton of saves but wasn't actually all that valuable in the grand scheme of things. Depending on which metrics you use he might not have been the best pitcher in the AL, but he racked up tons of innings and recorded tons of outs while keeping his team in the game in most of his starts.

I don't think he should have been named MVP, but again, the choice wasn't atrocious.

It was complete BS for a guy like Ellsbury who bounced back from an injury riddled 2010 season & just raked from start to finish in 2011 to lose an MVP award to a fucking pitcher.

Bouncing back has nothing to do with value, that is only valid in CBPOY, not MVP.

Big Hurt agrees with me on Verlander/pitchers not winning MVP.

Here's a few tweets of his tonight..

If they want to add a 3rd award for pitchers they should do just that. MVP is measured over a 162 game schedule!!

Pitchers do not deserve that award!! 36 starts is not enough to be the league MVP!!

Yup, well deserved. Dude was 1st in every single important category and had a pitching season close to Pedro's 10+ years ago.

The fact that Joecawks didn't like it makes it even more worth it.

Verlander was a beast this year. I wish the Cubs could get a pitcher of his caliber.

I think every team wished they had a pitcher of him or Roy Halladay's quality.

They are the two best, IMO.

That is true. But the Cubs need pitching. I would be happy with just Verlanders left arm haha
