I hope they do away with those types of contracts in the new CBA.

There ridiculous and destroy the integrity of the salary cap.
I agree. Instead they should keep slamming teams with incentive bonuses directly off the top of the cap.
Sharp could be another front loaded contract due to age. Like hopefully Seabrook is.

They should have signed Ladd to a 14 year 30 mil contract. First three years he gets 3 mil.
Sharp makes 3.9 mil per season right now and quite honestly I dont think he is worth more than 4 to 4.5 tops. If anyone thinks this year was the pits for trading guys out of town, how about next year where we have multiple guys signed for huge long term contracts already and have #7 and #10 to extend. Campbell wont be here after next season. If he is Seabs or Sharp wont be.

I'm not a big fan of individual incentive contracts either.

Team incentives I am a big fan of.

Re: Versteeg/Sweatt to TORONTO For Stalberg/DiDomenico/Parad

It's sad for me to see these guys leaving. They will remain special to me because of what they, along with every other member of this team achieved this year. And I agree that they knew they had to win it this year because they may never get another chance to do it together.

I'll be following Buf, Versteeg, Eager etc. on their new teams. I'll be seeing Versteeg a lot because where I live most of the games on TV are Leaf games. Jesus, I can't believe I may be rooting for a Leaf player. Something just seems wrong with that. :shifty:

It's hard sometimes to see players leave. I remember Bobby Hull in 1972. Was surprised that in 1973 we still went to the Finals without him.

The other players that come to mind are Savard, Roenick and Belfour. I still don't know why they had to go.

What is nice with this team is that we have a very talented core group - we just have to lock up the goaltending position. Hopefully Niemi won't be asking for an outrageous amount of money. Surely he realizes that even though the Hawks won the Cup with him, other teams won't pay a fortune for him seeing that many people called the goaltending in the Finals the worst in NHL history. I don't happen to agree with that, but ...

I wouldn't pay Niemi more than 2.75 mil a year - lets say $8 million over three years.

Rookie goalies have a tendency to blow up in their second year - players figure out their weaknesses. Niemi definitely needs coaching, in the Finals he seemed to react too quickly and find himself out of position. Poor kid, he must have been nervous as hell though - he seemed much calmer in the first two rounds, especially against Nashville where he stole a couple of games. He may turn out to be the real deal. Time will tell.

Many teams in this league would love to have either a Toews, Kane or Hossa - we have all three ! Many teams in this league would love to have a Keith or Seabrook - we have both of them!

I would really, really hate to see Sharp go. Every goal he scores seems to be an important goal - game tying, go ahead or winning goal. I'd like to see his statistics in that area.

We have to keep Sharp!

After a month, I'm still in a dream. Just a couple of years ago I thought I'd never see a Stanley Cup win in my lifetime!

Nope, because your loop hole won't be closed yet.

What loop hole? The multi year front loaded contract one?

You still can only have X amount of dollars per season.

There already on the hook for what? 40 million for next season for 6 guys?

Add 8 or 9 mil more for Seabs and Sharp and you better hope the players dont say no to the 5% escalator.

edit: its 6 guys and 33.9 million

You could give Seabs and Sharp similar contracts to Hossa and Keith and only have them cost 3 mil per year more than they do now. I'd say it's possible.

Seabrook is 3.5, you increase him to 4.5

Sharp is 3.9, you increas him to 4.9.

Thats two mil per year more directly to the cap for those two. Front load them so in the last five years they are down to 1.5 or so.

Plus next year we'll get our 4.5 mil bullshit bonus penalty back.

OK I gave both Seabs and Sharp cap hits of 4.5 mil.

Thats 8 guys (not counting Hammer or Niemi) signed to multi yr contracts for 42.9 million. Assuming a 5% increase that makes the cap 62.2 million that leaves 19.6 million to sign 12 add'l players plus add Hammer and Niemi cap hit. Youre gonna be left with having 12 players at under 1 million each to fill your roster. Find that very hard to believe can or will happen.

Can't look that far into the future. Campbell could be traded at that point. Let's get past this year first.

Sorry, it's the GM that runs in our family!!! :D

You've heard me talk about my sons 10 yr old team and how we plan for it.

It's a sickness, I know. Can't help it.
