Anyone looking for a long response to the trade just check that out. I like it, its not terrible, but its not great. Just a decent move that needed to be done and completely understood.

Stalberg might end up being the best player in this deal, maybe better than Versteeg. DiDomenico looks like he has an outside shot of making this team as a bottom line player depending on how we fill out our line-up in the next 1-2 years.

Tallon would have gotten more.... especially from Torana. What no fourth rounder too? haha

Versteeg on TSN now, class act as usual. Seems way to excited to go to Toronto though. Then again he is a pig in shit where ever he plays hockey.

Stan said that the Hawks didn't HAVE to make another deal...he didn't say the Hawks WOULD NOT make another deal. BIG difference in wording...
everyone knew two of Sharp, Buff, and Steeg were gone. Including the players. Which is another reason they tried so hard to win as the group they were.

No way around it. The bonus issue just complicated things more I guess.

My first priority now is Hjarlmarsson. Then Niemi, then Ladd. I would make sure none of those strap me from signing the six more players and if they did, Ladd would probably be my odd man out.
Even Steeg's mailman knew he was gone. His place was on the market and sold before the playoffs. He's been packed up and moved since victory week.....

Re: Versteeg/Sweatt to TORONTO For Stalberg/DiDomenico/Parad

I expected this...and I think it was the best move.

Yes, Steeg was solid in the playoffs, but looking at his pricepoint and who he was up against (Bolland and Sharp), they were *more* solid. Sharp IMHO should have been the Smythe winner, and Bolland took the Sedins and Thornton off of their games pretty much singlehandedly.

Ladd, I hope we can keep, of course, but i think the reality is that of Sharp/Bolland/Buff/Versteeg, the two that went were the two that should have went because really, who else in the $3M bracket could we have afforded to get rid of--reasonably? Seabs? I don't think so--and Bri would disembowel you with a plastic spork if you even mentioned it.

Hunny, you really do know me. I am flattered. And you're right they should be afraid.

I imagine, and I'm going on pure speculation, Seabrook would get a similar deal to Keith that would end his career in Chicago. That's the bonus with older players that you can do they type of deal 10-13 years. Where it's front loaded to even out the Cap hit. I also imagine there will be wording in the new CBA that covers any type of contract similar.

That's what I've assumed will happen and is what I'm hoping for -- the Seabs contract in the mold of the Keith contract, not the CBA revision.

Why can't we get insider info like that more often???

You can. The Officials have it all the time.

Oh there is no doubt. I said two months ago these guys would really push for the Cup because they KNEW a lot would be leaving and wanted to win it as a group.

I'd completely believe that.

I have to admit Steeg drove me nuts at times. But I am sorry to see him leave considering Buff was already traded.

Now if the Hawks had traded Sharp and kept Steeg, then I would have gone apeshit.

That being said, I wish him the best......until he plays the Hawks.

Since RK tells me I worry about the future too much I hope Scooter has a plan to get Sharp an extension PDQ. If he doesn't and has no plan of keeping Sharp after this season than I would have kept Versteeg and traded Sharp.

Sharp could be another front loaded contract due to age. Like hopefully Seabrook is.

They should have signed Ladd to a 14 year 30 mil contract. First three years he gets 3 mil.

I agree with you there. I can't see them getting someone else who produces as much for a bargain basement salary.

I hope they do away with those types of contracts in the new CBA.

There ridiculous and destroy the integrity of the salary cap.
