I'm still not sure I buy the Bonus thing due to LTIE. Something just doesn't "jive". I wish it was a hard fact out there but since the ONLY ones who know are in the organization no one but them will ever know.

At some point the hawks have to pay the bonus and then notify Cenral Registre of the NHL. I held out hope but it looks as if the carry-over bonus penalty is $4.19 million.

Re: Versteeg/Sweatt to TORONTO For Stalberg/DiDomenico/Parad

This post below is pretty right on the money. WHile Versteeg was always in Coach Q's doghouse, it's still sad to see him go because they didn't get squat in return. Toronto's record over the past years shows how badly they draft. And Billy Sweatt was the fastest player at the rookie combine when the Hawks drafted him.

Now with the impending loss of Madden and Ladd, you are talking about possibly not having 6/13 regular forwards from last year.(32,33,55,46,11,16). Talk about loss of leadership on and off the ice.

Couple that with the defensive trades of Wisniewski two years ago(for Sammy ??????) and Barker last year(for a guy named Kim), we are still short 2 good D. There is nobody in the current system that can make that 5-6 spot, especially Hendry and another slug named Danny Richmond who only remains around because his dad is a scout for the Hawks. Crap like that is reminiscent of the Pulford days.

There are a couple of local great free agent D around that the Hawks could get cheap: Joe Corvo of the Caps is a local kid (Oak Park)who is 33 and would love to finish his career here. Bret Lebda of the Redwings (Buffalo Grove) sat a lot during the playoffs and is not extremely happy in the motor city right now.

Hopefully we will start seeing some good players coming our way instead of leaving.

Better mean Ladd is returning.

Team keeps losing character dressing room guys.

I don't like seeing Steeg go for a lot of reasons. And I was pretty sure Burke was going to nab him as he fits the Leafs system well right now. God damn it did Burke have to make my prediction come true.

As for Leaf prospects. They haven't drafted well in 20 years. LOL. We will see.

business business business cap cap cap cap. Bull shit.

Loss of Leadership? Where?

Buff, was no leader

Steeg, was no leader

Eager, was no leader

Madden and Sopel, sure they had vet experience.

Defense you will have Keith, Seabrook, Campbell and Hjarlmarsson. Arguably the top four D men together, as a group, in the league. Then you will have Boynton, Hendry and I'm sure any number of UFA fillers for 5-6.

Leaders at forward? Really?

Toews!

Sharp!

Hossa!

Although I agree the Salary Cap has some issues, they are NOT breaking up the core here. Unfortunately there is no way around it either. The ONLY players you will see coming our way are CHEAP ONES! They are SHEDDING SALARY which means good players, unless YOUNG, are not coming back this way.

It's written in the Versteeg deal and the timing of the deal-the evening prior to teams being able to tender offer sheets to RFA's.

Also, Cap Geek is conservative in their figures. Today they updated the Hawks payroll for 2010-11 to reflect the 4 million bonus cluster ****.

How could the Hawks keep all of the guys you mentioned? How? I will wait for a response. I hate to see any of the guys leave because this team was special. But there was no way cap wise to keep them. The players knew this. Knowledgeable fans knew this. Thank god they won it last year and all of these guys got their names on the Cup, because some of them were going to be gone after last season no matter what happenned. Toews winning the Con Smythe bit them in the backside for this coming year, but the Hawks still won the Cup. Did I mention that?

Sweatt was gone and may not even stay in Toronto. They only traded his rights. He doesn't have to sign there if he chooses not too. He already said he wasn't signing with the Hawks because he wants a chance to play in the NHL right away. So they lost nothing by trading him.

I don't know much about the 3 guys they got except they are not going to cost the Hawks much towards the cap if they even play in the NHL this year.

Re: Versteeg/Sweatt to TORONTO For Stalberg/DiDomenico/Parad

So the Hawks STILL have...5 of their top 6 forwards (that just won the Stanley Fucking Cup)-

Toews, Kane, Hossa, Sharp and Bolland

Bringing back/in GOOD role players -

Brouwer - 22g

Kopecky - after Olmpics - 16gm - 6g - 3a - 9pts - +6 ...turned it up

Reasoner - a VERY good locker room guy

Stalberg - 6'3 210lbs - 9g in 40gms as a rookie (could be another Franzen, Lieno)

And have players ready to step in as role players -

Dowell, Bickell, Skille

And on D, they'll be bringing back their TOP 4 (including this Norris trophy winner) -

Keith, Seabrook, Campbell and soon Hjarllmarsson

Ladd may be back still....and they may sign a VET FA on the cheap that wants a shot to win a cup (Modano, Kariya)..who knows.

Good luck to Versteeg.

Let's hope he grows as a player.

There were flashes of greatness (toe drag move to score a goal), and flashes of WTF (6-1 loss in the conference finals last year versus Detroit).

Now, I get to be the person in the thread to say "chill."

If there are opinions you'd like to debate, do it. If you can't do that, please go somewhere else.

The issue on offensive language:

If you use the naughty no-no word like motherfucker, be creative in its use.

Like:

Those Redwings fans sure are motherfuckers today. The populous here will surely agree, and rejoicing will be heard.

You may get a debate with:

That Patrick Kane sure played like a motherfucker stoned out of his mind last night. What a motherfucker. This may find opposition, and you may have to bring some debating skills.

Lastly:

That RK sure is a motherfucker. ********** you and all of the motherfucking mods. This may be a hard argument to win.

It's about context and usage.

I feel at times that I'm babysitting a bunch of Special person strong adult children.

I am now in the room with my finger on the ban button.

This is what happens when I get a UTI infection after double kidney stones and I come back to preschool bantering. Maybe the drugs will kick in and my finger will move away from the button.

In short: Play nice. Or the offensive ones will be deposited into the colon of IHN to be released into the ban bowl.

Re: Versteeg/Sweatt to TORONTO For Stalberg/DiDomenico/Parad

People need to stop talking about Sweatt in this deal. He wasn't signing here and all we gave was his rights. It was a throw in and of no value to us but gives Tor something. This is basically steeg for 3 prospects. I had hoped we were done after the buff deal, especially when Stan himself said we didn't have to do any more. How much will this save us in salary? I hope it's more about signing the remaining players here, and not about trying to free up money for another big splash. And that includes signing Niemi to a mega deal.

Sorry, didn't read the whole thread to catch up.

That wasn't believeable for a minute. Just no way to fill the roster without moving 2 of Buff, Steeg, or Sharp. I think Stan kept the right player. As far as his remarks that nothing else had to be done, I think he was being coy. If other teams sense desperation, it would be that much harder to unload salary. Although I doubt he was fooling anyone who was paying attention to the numbers.

Re: Versteeg/Sweatt to TORONTO For Stalberg/DiDomenico/Parad

everyone knew two of Sharp, Buff, and Steeg were gone. Including the players. Which is another reason they tried so hard to win as the group they were.

No way around it. The bonus issue just complicated things more I guess.

My first priority now is Hjarlmarsson. Then Niemi, then Ladd. I would make sure none of those strap me from signing the six more players and if they did, Ladd would probably be my odd man out.
