Keep voting if you still can, we won't get him in but the NL needs another SS, and I think Tulo is still injured, so while he should get in as Furcal's backup anyway, let's force the issue!

I think they might choose someone besides Castro for backup SS, but a lot can change between now and the game.

There is a chance that they pick Castro especially if Dempster is still recovering by the time ASG comes around. If Dempster goes I think Castro going to the ASG as well is iffy especially since the Cubs suck so bad and since they might consider taking LaHair as well.

LaHair has sucked balls too much lately for him to deserve it. Dempster has been our best pitcher, but if he is still hurt he won't make it. Castro or Soriano have been our best offensive players by far.

I actually think they will pick Lowrie as the lone Astros rep. Castro would be on the outside looking in.

There are good things about Castro and SS being a weaker position he's actually among the top NL shortstops, but there are obvious flaws in his game and most of it stems from that slash line.

I was just looking at the Astros leaderboards and Jed Lowrie is by far their best player. I'd be very surprised if they pick another Astro...maybe Altuve but 2B is pretty deep in the NL so he'd be an even longer shot than Castro at SS in my opinion.

LaHair has fallen quite a bit (partly due to lack of playing time) and so I think the backup 1B to Votto may be filled by Goldschmidt. The Cubs All-Star spot is basically Dempster's unless he can't go. If he can't go, I think they'd prefer to pick Castro instead of LaHair but I don't know for sure. There's no way Castro wins the fan vote though; honestly the fan vote should have Lowrie in the lead but since the Astros suck, of course nobody would vote for him.

I think it has to be Castro, there's no one else.

Demp may not return until after the all-star break and LaHair sucks (for right now and beyond I think).

Furcal hasn't been gret this seaon either. Castro and Furcal's line are very very close. Jose Reyes has not been great either. Tulo has been OK, but he won't go becaue of injury.

Jed Lowrie has the HR, but that's really it. Nothing else on his line stands out.

Castro is among the top in every offensive category for NL SS. He should be our All-Star.

Well, to be fair, that .301 leads all NL SS's, so I don't see how that is something to frown upon compared to other NL SS's.

And OBP matters less than SLG which matters less than OPS and he is in third in that category, so it isn't like he's been terrible. 2.1 WAR is on pace for between 4.5 and 5, FWIW.

Castro has also been better than Furcal this year, so I don't see why Furcal is even getting voted in as starter, probably because of homer Cardinal fans. Castro has better stats in almost every category.

No, that's not ba at all, but you want to see Castro work the count more than he does and raise that OBP a bit. While it may be the lesser importance of the three, it is kinda disappointing that his OBP is as low as it is compared to his batting average

You can't use WAR that way. Just because he has 2 WAR now doesn't mean he will at the end of the season.

It's not impossible for Castro to be the NL's backup SS but at the same time you have to recognize that his offensive game has its flaws and that Jed Lowrie has been the better SS at offense. If Castro's on a losing team and isn't a household name yet, he's not getting in through the vote and I doubt he'll get into the Final Vote either. And he'll have to get in line if he wants in as a backup.

If the Cubs' report that Demp won't start until after the ASG is true, then Castro has a much better chance of getting in since LaHair is sucking and the better backup at 1B is Goldschmidt. That's about it; Castro isn't terrible but he's not getting in on merit, but basically by default, if at all.
