lowrie,furcal,reyes>castro.

so no not voting for a .301 BA .318 OBP w/6 hrs.

Lahair I just may

No, just no.

Lowrie > Castro > Furcal > Reyes

Average: Castro .301, Furcal .283, Reyes .269 (I know this stat doesn't matter)
OBP: Furcal .347, Reyes .346, Castro .318 (the less important part of OPS kills Castro)
SLG: Castro .437, Furcal .380, Reyes .380 (And Castro kills both in SLG even more than they kill him in OBP. SLG correlates to runs at a 92% ratio, OBP only 88%, to point of baseball is to score more runs than your opponent (these are as team stats, but apply to players too as it shows what to look for in a player).
OPS: Fangraphs doesn't show it in basic stats, but I can assure you that Castro is up by around .020 based on OBP and SLG. My laptop is about to overheat so everything is going slow and I don't want to open another page.
wOBA: Furcal .323, Castro .322, Reyes .321, pretty damn close
WAR: Castro 2.1, Furcal 1.8, Reyes 1.4, I know WAR is and to use alone, but I'm not using it alone
And Castro has the best UZR in the NL out of Shortstops, so I'd argue that he has been better defensively as well.

However, Lowrie and Desmond have been better than Castro.

it comes down to Cubs need a representative. Its either going to be Castro or Sori. My guess is the Cubs want Castro to go to represent now and the future of the team

What the Cubs want is irrelevant. It depends on who the NL managers and players choose.

I also don't think SLG is more important than OBP. All things being equal, you want to not make outs, as outs are the time currency of baseball. I tried to Google this and most of the articles suggest that OBP is more important or at least equivalent to SLG.

I refuse to vote anymore, it's so umb that guys get in that have the name, and not the stats. They should let the managers pick not the idiot fans that pick there favorite players

Sometimes the managers are idiots and pick the guys who have the pretty RBI numbers but aren't necessarily the best players.

Between 2002 and 2011, the correlation between team OBP and runs scored was 88%, team SLG to runs was a correlation of either 90 or 92%, I'm on my phone right now, I'd have to go to my laptop to confirm which, I have it in an excel spreadsheet... But SLG was definitely higher correlated to runs.

Makes sense cause HR, Doubles, Triples help team more then getting walks/singles.

Right because a .380 SLG is soooo good... And I don't care much about whether it was sarcastic or not. I'll take Castro's OPS and SLG over Furcals OBP

Did we forget again that Castro is 22?

Amazing how fans keep forgetting that. He been all star, NL hit leader, all before the age of 22.

Most 22 y/o are in AA. Castro is younger then most top prospects

Well age also isn't worth merit for ASG or win now mode, but I agree that a lot of fans seem to forget that

National media writers seem to think that age matters in all star vote. They keep talking how well Harper and Trout doing at there age. Lets start talking how Castro plays everday, produces daily, DEF has improved greatly in last 2 months, and that he is one of the best SS in the NL

Oh, so age should be accounted for in All Star Voting... But you will take LaHair over Castro? What?

LaHair is kind of there by default but as I've stated earlier, Goldschmidt seems to be the better choice at this point. That's why if Dempster can't go I can see Castro being the lone Cub representative. They're not going to put in Soriano over the other OFs right now.

I read that study on SLG > OBP and while it was true for the past decade (run environment changing etc.) it still stands to reason that not making outs is a very good skill to have, and Castro is flawed in that skill. Making outs almost 70% of the time is bad and Castro's SLG doesn't necessarily make up for that.
