He either sucks or gets hurt. Basically the same story for the last 3 seasons.

He still won't be benched even if he does suck. But then again, Q might not give a shit about how bug his contract is.

Or... he gets traded. :)

Injured is the most likely scenario though.

Ok?

Then what process do you use to try and evaluate what a guy can or can't do or will or won't do at the major league level? How do you project a minor leaguer to the majors with out using his stats at all? What do you look at when saying "Player X at AA Whatever could bring this or that to the MLB level"..and what do you base that on?

I'm honestly curious about this. Like I said, I assume you're enough of a baseball fan to follow minor league prospects.

I am a baseball junky. I am 31 years old and have seen prospects flourish, and I have seen them fail.

You are missing what I am trying to say, or I am not explaining myself properly.

I am not concerned with player X and what he brings to the majors or could bring to the majors on an everyday basis. A combo of minor league stats and advanced scouting can give you an idea, which is when I said you can "try" to project a player based on minor league stats. But again it is a waste of time.

now here is where I care about prospects or the farm system:

If a team loses their star center fielder, and they cannot make a trade to replace the injured player or the injury is only 60 days (example) I will look at the farm and minor league stats for sure to see if we have a replacement that can just do an average job to fill in a void for your star player. I specifically am not projecting out players based on minor league numbers for the long term mlb career or if the player is going to be a star or not. I am only concerned with the short term with injuries.

2nd, Teams can project guys however they want, using stats, advanced scouting etc. Of course the higher the rating per player the better. I care about the high rated prospects, not for the long term mlb team that I follow, but as a chip to obtain the services of a proven MLB player.

You are a red sox fan correct? It is a dice game when dealing out prospects as you have seen with hanley ramirez. You never know if you are dealing flops or you are dealing super stars. I would still make the trades, moving spects because i care about the WS, I dont care what the Knights do.

Like I said you can try to use stats to project, but it is so inconsistent as far as results of the player.

Not what you said. But thanks for the explanation..........finally

:smug:

You view prospects more as commodities to be brokered rather than something to build around as they are more high risk than a (hopefully)proven major league player. You'd rather trade Hanley away at max prospect value than hold onto him and risk him flopping.

Like I said, either I didnt clarify myself or you didnt understand. no ones fault.

Bold- yes. and of course you will lose some like in the hanley case, but with that said, it may not be a complete loss since lowell and beckett helped in the 2007 World Series. If you dont make that deal you may not win in 2007.

Thats how i feel about specs to

I'm fine with trading them, but not 5 at a time. For a good deal, I'd trade anybody not named Starlin Castro though.

:notfunny: your joking right?

Nope. Castro has more years of team control and isn't getting anywhere close to his peak.

And we are Castro Homers. :smug:
