From the link posted... "The Frank J. Selke Trophy is an annual award given to the forward who best excels in the defensive aspects of the game."

I don't see skill said there.. can someone actually stick to the one official term or is there not one known?

and that wasnt bolland. he wasnt even the one who best excels in the defensive aspect of the game on his own team.

yeah I read it.

Its like UZR and UZR 150. Its about as reliable as that. Really? Are we reaching this hard to feel good about players on the team?

I analyzed that chart for 2 hours. Its so close to UZR its not even funny.

• Given the number of forwards with tough defensive zonestarts, it's easy to eliminate the forwards with more offensive zonestarts: Toews, Franzen, Couture, Datsyuk, Whitney, Bertuzzi, Zetterberg, Filppula, Vrbata, Cammalleri, Kopitar, Dupuis, Marleau, Nash and Elias. 33 candidates remain.

•17 of our candidates played 82 games, so those with a much lower number of games played, let's say less than 65, are out: Wyman, Backlund, Carter, Hall, Goc, Nodl, Staal, Tanguay, Hanzal. 24 candidates remain.
•Based on the difficulty of minutes the rest of the group has played, those forwards with a DZS of less than 57.5% and a Rel QoC of less than 1.4 are out: Smyth, Hemsky, Laich, Kostitsyn, Umberger, Callahan, Sykora, Brouwer, Oshie, Backes. 14 candidates remain.

^^^ Thats even worse when he wrote that.

Its a complete joke of an article with huge flaws.

I don't know if there's an inscription on the trophy or anything like that but the usual description of the trophy is there in the first paragraph of your quote.

You seem awfully concerned with my whereabouts.

Just another post by you that wasnt needed in the slightest and added no value to the conversation. If you want to disagree with dmelt, go ahead to do so but no need to try and belittle his thoughts or stance in the process.

I fail to see how the reliability of baseball statistics have anything to with this. There are so few things similar about baseball and hockey.

jesus you guys are stupid.

he posted one article about how Bolland COULD be considered for the Selke and you go off on a page and a half argument.

COULD he be? sure
SHOULD he be? perhaps
WILL he be? no, because like Dewey said, he is at times not even the best defensive forward on the team...kind of hard to get recognition that way

Could Bolland be considered for the Selke? No.
Should he based on what the Selke actually rewards? Maybe.

It's supposed to be the best defensive forward in the league, but it's turned into who has the most takeaways and is the best two-way forward.

Since that's how the award is selecte now, no way Bolland gets it.

Weird that it would be mentioned after he had one of his worst seasons offensively. The argument could've been better made last year I believe.

I have no idea how you can compare defense in hockey and baseball. There's nothing in common there.

Also, there were three different stats compared on that chart. You're talking like there's only one.

You've taken this thing in such a ridiculous direction I can't even remember what you're initial gripe was with the article, if you had one.
