Watch Deng sign elsewhere while we chase Melo and end up overpaying Danny Granger!

I think a lot of people are not realizing that NBA history is not really on our side. How many teams have won a title with their point guard as their leading scorer? Not many. I know we all want Rose, the hometown guy, to be THE guy, but history says otherwise. If you get a chance to get a scorer like Melo - you do it.

Why in the hell would a Heat fan want the Bulls to win a title?

And the chance he'll stay and sign an extension is 0, as explained ad nauseam on this forum for the past 3 years.

The only pointguard that was the best player on his team to win titles that i remember is Magic Johnson, but Magic was much more than a pointguard.
He was a center ane power foward as well....Plus he had a star studded cast on his roster to compliment him.

Back to teams that won titles with the pointguard as the best player on the team, one could argue that Tony Parker was the best player on some of the Spur championship teams, but he had equal valued players like Dunkin and Ginobli.

Derrick Rose is no Magic Johnson.
I could see Rose as the second best player on a championship team complimenting someone like Lebron, Kobe, Melo and Kevin Durant.
I dont mean any disrespect to Rose, but thats just the way i see it. Rose is a great player though, but we still dont know how evens going to play post-injury.
Bulls F.O needs to think and operate big to win big.
Trades will definatley be necassary to make it happen or a blockbuster signing which idont believe Pax and company are capable of getting done.

I dont ever post in the bulls forum, at least thisi is my first time. I was reading these posts and I can see everyone is passionate in what they think will help the bulls, so I'll add my two cents. Personally I wouldnt want Melo on our team, he can score, true, but he just doesn't fit this team as its built in any way. He scores, thats it, he doesn't play defense, which would drive Thibs insane. He has to have the ball too much to be effective, which takes away from Rose, which we will need. Now I'm not saying we can't get a scoring type to pair with Rose on this team, but it has to be someone that can play within the framwork of how Thibs wants things done. They will have to not only score, but play well with Rose, and most importantly play defense. If Lebron hits free agency, he would be a good fit, IMO. He scores, but he isn't a type to keep Rose from scoring, he seems to be a team first type, and he will play defense. I think he and Rose would be a dominate tandem without a doubt, and if Lebron actually looks at it he'll see that. I don't think Rose would have a problem playing with Lebron at all, it's about championships, and I'm sure Rose wants those badly.

That said, I don't know what Lebron is gonna do, so looking at things, couldn;t we do a sign and trade with Luol? I'm not sure how the rules work but couldn't we offer him more? I don't wanna get into trade scenarios, but I'm sure if we could pull off a sign and trade we could get some good talent back, while leaving us some money to go get some other players, plus we have the bobcats pick, which we could trade with our own pick to move up in the draft, depending where we are with both picks. I'm positive we can get a real good young kid told mold into this team. with either a high pick from the bobcats, or if they actually win enough to push it down, we could package the picks, and go get a young stud who could star with Rose. We could also let Luol walk and sign someone like Granger, who may not be the greatest player, but in all honesty may be the best fit in free agency for our team. He scores, and plays good defense. He and Rose could be pretty good together, throw in a possible high pick in the draft, and Mirotic coming over, with Butler, and we could have something great. Granger wouldn't be too far a drop off defensively from Luol, plus his offense would be better, IMO. I know it isn't the sexiest signing name out there, but I really believe Granger would add some scoring pop, while still not causing us to lose much on the defensive end. Snell hopefully will develop as well, Butler should take another step this year as well.

Looking at this years team, how it's shaping us, our defensive could be extremely dominate, Noah, Butler, and Deng, plus Rose's defense could give teams fits. I don't think much of Boozer, and would love to see us find some poor sucker to trade him to, but it is what it is there. Personally I think Gibson gives us more. He plays good defense, can score when needed, and if he started we would have all five starters playing tenacious defense. Our scoring should go up some with the return of Rose, Butler's further development, and I think the bench will be strong. We"ll have Dunleavy, who isn't too bad on defense, and can score , Hinrich should be more effective coming off the bench, Teague hopefully is gonna follow the same delopmental arc that Butler had, if he does, he spells Rose, and we lose nothing there. Likely Gibson's coming off the bench, and will be very effective, Snell hopefully will play well enough to provide help off the bench. I worry about us not really having a decent backup to Noah. Noah gets injured alot, and I don't know how much whatshisname has left, sorry his name slips my mind.

I'm sorry for the long post, I just wanted to add my thoughts, and once I got started I guess I had a lot more to say than I thought origionally. Don't be to hard on me, I'm usually in the Bears forum, but I'm also a diehard bulls fan as well as the cubs.

oh god here we go with the "melo doesn't play defense and that would drive thibs insane" thing again...thibs can make him a decent defender

if he becomes available and wants to come to chicago you gotta take him...we are not in position to be picky and deny a 28 point scorer...have yall lost it?

by signing melo we would have a better chance at a title than if we do nothing or resign Deng to a outrageous contract

we dont even have a enough money to sign a max FA even with letting Deng go for nothing and amnestying Boozer

we would have to dump taj for nothing and probably somebody else like teague to free up max space....we also wont be able to sign Nikola either

chances of us getting Melo/LeBron? zero

*not saying i wouldn't give all that up for bron/melo*

The Bulls can win it all with Rose as the guy- he just needs help offensively to do so. He plays like a 2 when he takes the game over anyway so it isn't a huge issue with him being a PG.

yup, with you, it cant be done..........if theres any type of cuts, trades, amnosties, draftpicks, or any loop holes whatso ever that could work out a deal to sign or trade for Lebron and Lebron expresses interest in playing for the Bulls agin, you find a way and get it done if your PaxGar or Jerry............Like ive said, whatever team lebron goes to will be the team winning championships for years to come.......the Bulls business and responsibility is to bring titles to Chicago.....If not, then the Bulls are based soely on selling tickets and being Just good enough........Period.

I would not trade Luol Deng for Carmelo Anthony straight up even if their contracts were identical. I don't want that fat, cancerous, blackhole, ball-stopping, one dimensional overrated piece of shit anywhere near my team. As a poster above said he would waste Rose. I'll also add that there would be no ball-movement on offense, our defense would be significantly worse, and well... basically every aspect of the team would be worse.

Carmelo Anthony is the single most overrated player in NBA history.
I don't get this obsession with so called superstars that don't win. Melo is not taking ANY team to the title. Period. The only way he will ever win one is the way Gary Payton won his. Be a role player on a loaded team or how Eddy Curry got one, riding the bench while others do all the work. Because as long as he's a significant player on your team, your team is going nowhere, FAST! Trading for him and adding him to this team, kills the Bulls chances.

Agreed as much as a human being can possibly agree. I also absolutely cannot imagine Carmelo Anthony being a significant contributor on a championship team, imo his very style of play is basically conductive to losing, especially in the playoffs when defenses are more complex/difficult.

I would argue Isiah Thomas. But, I think one thing we're overlooking is the league were in now as opposed to the one 20 years ago. Big man roamed the floor and most teams built their team around them. The league we're in now is run by guard thus why Rose can lead us to the promise land. At least, I hope so.
