I think maybe the disrespect is in both directions. Watson is the employee, under contract, and is being paid a mint. This isn't the NBA where you pick the team.

Bears 36
Watson 7

There is no talent on Houston's D and the offense doesn't have much either outside of Watson. Cooks is a concussion prone WR and Fuller is a UFA coming off of a suspension and has numerous injuries. Lovie's D will give up 30ppg next season.

I would also keep in mind that Watson was representing his teammates when he went to Harris and was given assurances they would consider his input. So it is highly possible that his teammates will ride with him on this because this is turning more into a political fight rather than just a normal contract despite. This will play out as the white ownership disregarding what the uppity negroes had to say. The woke mob will be all over this if the Texans can't appease Watson.

Except this isn't a franchise tag Le'Veon Bell scanario, Watson is under contract for 5 more years. He has limited leverage. He, literally needs Houston's permission to play another down in the NFL. Houston is likely posturing for picks, but in the end they hold all the aces. Any trade is going to cost Houston $21M in dead money, so they are going to want a kings ransom.
It more than likely won't cost Houston a dime in dead money. Anytime there's a major trade there's usually a new contract involved, or at the very least a restructuring.

It's certainly possible that they make amends with Watson, but Watson kinda went all in on being traded when he requested to be traded. Tough for a guy to come back to the same team after that I would think. Texans ownership really screwed the pooch on this one. I imagine Watson has been upset with them since they traded Hopkins and for a LT that can't block for shit.

Assuming Texans brass can't appease Watson, they should just take advantage of it and do a complete rebuild. They already have a new GM/HC. Sell off all your assets for picks and start over.

Watson told the Texans he wanted out shortly after the Texans hired Nick Caserio on Jan. 7th.

Caserio didn't talk to him, so Watson decided to go public with his request this week.

Now the GM, who didn't call his franchise QB, is talking about how he has a plan for him?

When exactly is it considered 'too early' to fire the GM you just hired?

The dead money is all SB so nothing they can do to avoid.

No. There is $21.6M in already paid signing bonus that rather than being spread over the next 4 years would get accelerated to next season. There is no way around that cap hit.

Edit: Just saw this has already been addressed.
