The entire Keith/Carter event is being blown way out of proportion in the media and I think that effects the fans brain functionings as the media of most kinds over evaluate stories and talk them up to things they are not. Fans eat right into this shit.

Keith apologize to Carter a number of times after the incident. In a post game Carter accepted it and said himself Keith should not be suspended as its an incidental event (he also knows he himself wasn't clean on it all). I said it before sounds to me like the event took care of it self already between two mature vets of the game who actually do respect each other and understand the realities of competitive physical sport. The idea that the league has to be involved at all in this incident is just mind fucking blowing.

They want the players to respect each other but when players actually do show that respect and try to remedy the situations themselves the league won't get the **** out of the way and still demand full control while the media is demanding it. And yes I would feel the same way if the shoe was on the other foot. Who does this benefit? If suspended, will it keep minor events like this one from happening again? Just fucking laughable.

That's what you get when everyone has to be protected from everyone...and the people that don't get that aspect - all think they need more punishment

There was an infraction in the game. He was penalized within the rules of the game. No one was injured/missing games. Move on

And yes...it would be the same if Carter did it to Keith.

I agree. This is a situation where the penalty called fit the punishment IMO. I think Carter could have served 2 minutes for that slash, but I'm over it... The sad thing is, if Keith embellished the slash Carter probably would have been called on it.

On the flipside, had he broken Keith's hand, I think he would be getting the call right now instead of Duncan.

Question: what is the rule on dropping the gloves before the puck is dropped?

I thought that was a game misconduct?

Yup. The issue resolved itself through the penalty and the players working it out. That is what I like to see rather than some of the stupid antics of other players. No additional outside influence or punishment needed.

You get a game misconduct if you drop them before the opening faceoff. Sorry I don't have the NHL rulebook memorized like you.

nope..this suspension is riddled with hypocrisy from the fans, media and the league. I have heard the same people who are applauding this suspension also say that players should be able to resolve matters themselves when they can in reasonable manners without league involvement. That was done.

Everyones full of shit..its official now.

It's part of the game... Just like when a player in the NBA is forced to take a foul, and then has to sit out a while because they're in foul trouble.

No, no it isn't. This was before a face off, where Sharp simply overreacted. In basketball, this would be an example of a bad foul lol. What you're thinking it's like, and what's a much more apt comparison, is a penalty taken to stop a breakaway or a two on 1 or similar prime scoring chance. Something like that, completely understandable, just like fouling someone in basketball to stop them from getting an easy lay up. You make them work for it. This wasn't any of that, it was just Sharp letting Williams get the best of him over something small. It's amusing how saying something as seemingly common sense like I'd rather not see our point leader not overreact to things like that is a huge deal lol. Once again, only in the NHL.

Someone that's never been on the ice...is going to say how small ice position is on faceoffs/to get inside position and puck control

Once again...only people that never played and don't understand the game

For the third time, if you can't see a difference between jostling for position during a face off, just like there is in any given face off, and crosschecking and wanting to fight, I don't know what to tell you.

And you know it was Williams that asked Sharp to fight, right?

I know your husband probably fights your battles for you...but Sharp simply said yes to his challenge.

I don't care whose idea it was, was still dumb on Sharp's part. It's a fucking face off, no need to take a penalty like that in that situation.

It's just an aspect of the game that you don't understand. You can either accept it, or, if it bothers you that much, watch another sport...

Sharp should just move away for all faceoffs and avoid physical confrontation just to let the opposing players gain position to grab the puck through out the rest of the game.

That's the thing, it's not even that it bothers me THAT much, it's that it causes this asinine reaction to saying something as small as that.

Point out where I said that. Or even implied that. I'll give you a hint, I said the exact opposite, and you even put it in bold in my post you quoted. So just re-read that part, and hey, no problems. Misunderstanding solved.

We're all sorry your husband left you. But you should pull your kids from hockey or they're going to get made fun of...when you go complaining to refs/coaches/other parents.

It wasn't a bad penalty, and it didn't hurt the Hawks. It was a complete non-factor. Singling it out is pointless because nobody cared at all about it.
