There is no football IQs.

I don't even understand why some talk about football. There's quite a few who POST DURING THE GAME. Just when do they keep their eyes off the computer/phone when watching the game? I'm guilty between commercials and occasionally; but some just ***** the whole game.

Waiting all year for football season....
Proceed to post during the game.

Bro....what are you babbling about now

all that being said Cutler isn't as good as a lot here proclaim but he dam sure isn't as bad as a lot make him out either.

what he is is the very best we have ever had and even when ive cussed him and believe me I have I have enjoyed him as a bear and I give him his due as the best ever for the bears

http://www.footballdb.com/teams/nfl/...lltime-passing
sorry but yes he is

Jesus flying **** this is one the stupidest series of posts I've ever seen on this board.

Sid Luckman is a fucking Hall of Famer with 4 championship rings and a 5-time first team all-pro. You seriously think Cutler is a better quarterback than Sid Luckman?

And you seriously think you can make an apples-to-apples comparison of QB ratings of modern era quarterbacks to guys who played 50+ years ago with all of the developments and rule changes? Hint: no, you can't, because the modern rules make passing much more efficient than it was 50 years ago.

7 of the top 8 quarterbacks in NFL history by career QB rating are currently playing. Matt fucking Schaub has a higher career QB rating than Joe Montana, Otto Graham, Roger Staubach, Bart Starr, and Johnny Unitas. Is Matt Schaub the best quarterback out of that group? Hint: no.

It doesn't matter. The people who did voted him into the Hall of Fame, and the Bears retired his jersey #42 out of respect for his greatness. More people who watched Cutler play for the Bears would want to burn his jersey than retire it.

I'd prefer to recycle it if I could. Burning it may hurt the earths atmosphere and also effect Gravity.

You got a time machine?

No?

So then don't put him in todays NFL.

He was best in the NFL for a good 5-7 years during his era.

Cutler was never even close to top 10 during this era.

Don't disagree at all.

I think Luckman might have had a hard time getting a shot in today's NFL. It's a different era. Another thing with Jay is we all know he's bright, but it doesn't seem to translate to the field. He might just be too smart for his own good as far as football. Sometimes in sports, thinking is not an advantage. I think he gets frustrated and bails out, which usually means chucking it up.

IT is just totally unfair when trying to compare the players of years ago to the players of today. Too often the "evaluator" just takes a look at physical measureables in making his decision. Beyond the facts of better nutrition(legal and illegal), training regimen, equipment, field surfaces, and the like, today's rules are different, the game is much more specialized, etc.

The only fair way to evaluate players is against their own generation' Luckman was a giant in his generation. One of the best players in the entire game. And he played both ways! Cutler is at best an average NFL quarterback in his generation which makes this "best Bear quarterback" ever argument very naive and outright silly.

I didn't see him play but I remember my dad and uncles talking about him a lot during those pinnochel(sp?) games in our basement:)

1) If Luckman had grown up 20-30 yrs ago he wouldn't have been the same product as he was back then. This is because of better nutrition, healthcare, training, weight training, plyometrics, offensive philosophy, passing leagues for H.S. kids, better competition/development at the collegiate levels, etc. etc. So to compare the finished product from way back to now is ridiculous.

2) Who exactly knows Cutler is "bright" and often times over thinks things? I would say he often times tries too hard to make things happen when they aren't there, but that isn't being too smart for his own good. Overall I think Cutler is an average Joe type when it comes to general intelligence compared to other QB's and his wonderlic backs that up.

I wouldn't disagree. He's obviously a hard guy to figure out. He's a bit of an enigma.

I'd like to see him succeed, but anyone who even has hope for him must be thinking they were wrong at this point. I'm not going to fall off the face of the earth if I'm wrong. He has as much talent as anyone, but he doesn't put it on the field.

I think I am finished with saying he has as much talent as everyone else.

He has as much talent in his arm as anyone else, but he CERTAINLY is lacking in brain/eye talent which can be just as important as arm talent. I think sometimes we tend to pretend like seeing the field isn't, at least in part, a talent and I think that's incorrect. Seeing lots of moving pieces develop and being able to unconsciously understand where/when people are going to become open is both a skill you can work on developing and a talent. He doesn't have much talent in that area when compared to top QBs and that's just the way it is.

He lacks on the field as far as intelligence. I think he's a smart guy, but it doesn't always translate. He makes dumb decisions, forces the ball and holds it too long. I'm not sure it's all attributable to him, but he definitely needs to wake up or be dialed back.

I don't think it's all intelligence. I think some of it is actual eye sight/visual spatial awareness and accuity.

I just think he lacks some of the talent in those areas guys like Manning, Brady and ARod have. I don't think that necessarily has anything to do with what we understand as IQ. (which for the most part is Verbal IQ in day to day life as I understand it)

You could be right. I'm as clueless as everyone about Jay. Sometimes I just don't think it's a priority. He'll do the daily job, but it seems that's all it is.
