There is no football IQs.

I don't even understand why some talk about football. There's quite a few who POST DURING THE GAME. Just when do they keep their eyes off the computer/phone when watching the game? I'm guilty between commercials and occasionally; but some just ***** the whole game.

Waiting all year for football season....
Proceed to post during the game.

#logical

Wait...

So you can't type and watch the game at the same time?

This explains a lot...

the cancer is jay with his piss-poor, leadership, mechanics and disregard for improving as a Qb.

Orton sucked his first couple of years but became a fairly serviceable QB. He was good enough to start on many teams after Denver, but got stuck on the bench, that may have been what he wanted. I agree though, Kyle Orton was one of the most BORING QBs I have ever watched. At least Rex was exciting in either a good or bad way !

what was our W-L record with Orton

Angelo had to make that trade for Cutler, at that time QB was the biggest question mark of those teams and the potential of Cutler at that time made it worth trading for. 6 years later it is easy for us to say that the Bears were in no better position now as they were with Orton as the QB. And before some blow that statement out of proportion, I'm not saying Orton was a better QB...just saying the "upgrade" to Cutler was that much to make giving up Orton and 2 firsts worth it. Again this is all hindsight and at the time most fans were ok with the trade. But it is hard not to look back and think if the Bears kept Orton, and picked up stronger WR's along with the defense in place how would have things played out?

IMO....the jay deal was mistake from the beginning. Why? cuz just as now his performance didn't match what we gave up.

Jesus flying **** this is one the stupidest series of posts I've ever seen on this board.

Sid Luckman is a fucking Hall of Famer with 4 championship rings and a 5-time first team all-pro. You seriously think Cutler is a better quarterback than Sid Luckman?

And you seriously think you can make an apples-to-apples comparison of QB ratings of modern era quarterbacks to guys who played 50+ years ago with all of the developments and rule changes? Hint: no, you can't, because the modern rules make passing much more efficient than it was 50 years ago.

7 of the top 8 quarterbacks in NFL history by career QB rating are currently playing. Matt fucking Schaub has a higher career QB rating than Joe Montana, Otto Graham, Roger Staubach, Bart Starr, and Johnny Unitas. Is Matt Schaub the best quarterback out of that group? Hint: no.

That's why the era adjusted stats are PFR are so awesome, but God forbid more people here actually go and understand them.

Yup, and relevant, to our discussion, the top ten all time quarterbacks by era-adjusted Rate+ are:

1. Otto Graham
2. Aaron Rodgers (!)
3. Steve Young
4. Joe Montana
5. Sammy Baugh
6. Roger Stauback
7. Len Dawson
8. Sid Luckman
9. Peyton Manning
10. Tom Brady

Jay Cutler does not even make the top 100, which should make sense because Cutler is a mediocre starting quarterback in his own era.

How did you find/compile this list? I didn't know PFR had a career Rate+ leaders list available.

I think we can put to bed Cutler being the greatest Bear QB of all time.

He has a long ways to go before that happens

Every year, Jay turns more and more fans against him, as they slowly understand he'll never grow and will always disappoint overall.

You have to wonder how many more seasons of that he has in him before he has zero believers left.

I was bored so I calculated the Rate+ of every Bears quarterback to start at least 15 games over the past 30 years, only counting their stats with the Bears. It comes out like this:

1. 107 Jim McMahon
2. 104 Erik Kramer
3. 99 Jay Cutler
4. 98 Jim Harbaugh
5. 97 Jim Miller
6. 96 Steve Fuller
7. 93 Shane Matthews
8. 87 Cade McNown
9. 86 Kyle Orton
10. 86 Bob Avellini
11. 86 Rex Grossman
12. 79 Mike Tomczak

4 comments:

1. Our QB play has really, really sucked, and the statistics reflect that (remember, for Rate+, by definition, 100 is average, >110 is great, and <90 is garbage).

2. The stats back up my assertion that McMahon and Kramer were the two best Bear QBs in my lifetime.

3. See, Jim Miller wasn't that bad.

4. Orton's stats are skewed by the fact that he was forced to start 15 games as an unprepared rookie. His 2008 season (the season before we traded him away), he had a Rate+ of 96, which is below average, but not terrible.
