This guy is a false prophet, he says:

"I'm only teaching the Bible. I'm telling ... this is what the Bible says."

Except, no where in the Bible does it mention the date of the end of the world. If he actually reads the Bible he would know that no one knows the date the world will end, but it will be a spontaneous decision by an act of God. No angel, human being, or Jesus himself will know the day or hour. These are truths in the Bible (regardless of what you believe in, just saying this is what the Bible says). There is no date.

The people who follow this guy are people who have never read the Bible, and need someone to hold their hand through believing something.

Wasn't there a study that showed that a significant portion of fundamental Christians had a very poor knowledge of the Bible and even atheists knew more about what is said in the Bible. They love to repeat verses that they heard their pastor and televangelists quote without even bothering to read it in context. No thinking allowed.

Exactly, any verse in the Bible can be taken out of context very easily, and shaped in whatever way you want it to be. You have to read the entire scripture to really get a good feel for what it means. Even then, it's just one persons interpretation. My view may be different than yours, doesn't mean either of us are right.

That's why, to me, church is useless. The only way I can form an opinion is if I read it myself. When I do go to church, I often find myself disagreeing with the pastor, priest, or whatever you want to call them, mostly because I've already read it and formed a different opinion than they did. More often than not, I leave church wanting to argue with them, but never actually go through with it.

Thats painfully true of most christians (or any religion for that matter). When I was one I never read the bible. When I began to question my faith, is when I started (and ultimately solidified, my non-belief). Its funny how reading the bible had the absolute opposite effect of its intent.

There was a reason in the middle ages only royalty and the clergy were allowed to read the bible, so they could be the only authority, and you had no choice but to believe what they told you about your faith (like crusades being a good idea, or a rebellion against your king is a rebellion against God, because God made him king). Now people have free reign to read this dumb book and dont, and blindly believe what their religious authority tells them. If people would seriously study it, all of the human error in writing it jumps right the **** out at you. The fact the "morality" of the bible reflects the morality man held to at any given time.

You guys ready for some daily dose of bible?

Romans 16:17-18 ESV

I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive.

That guy must not have read this passage when he concocted that scheme....
