How come everyone seems to be going left to right... but Dallas, Detroit and nashville seem to go down? Is it a formatting thing, or is there a particular reason?

Not sure what you mean. Can you explain. Aside from that, or related, those 3 teams have played more games than most of the teams in the dvision

SO you have numbers and dashes on your grid. Dashes in place where the number is already represented elsewhere or not needed because it's the same team.So for instance in the chicago row you have a dash for the first square because it aligns with chicago, but then you list the numbers for everyone else to represent their magic number. so for the chicago column you only need dashes all the way down becuase all the numbers are represented... Then next row you have ANA so you have two dashes because the first is chicago which is already represented in the chicago row, and then next is itself... so you go to the next row and the same, next row and the same but when you get to say dallas, you dashes through amost the whole row, and look like you represent their numbers going down the NSH column instead of across int he NSH row.

It just seems like those three colomns are out of place and I was wondering if that is a product of this type of table or a formating thing or had a specific reason.

I tried to paste a snippet but it has to be uploaded somewhere first. give me second.

"..." indicates Team A cannot guarantee a higher finish than Team B by itself and needs "help" from Team B to be assured of a higher finish. Most likely, Team B has played less games than Team A.

Taking Nashville as the example....Nashville's magic numbers except against CBJ will have "..." because they have played 1-3 games more than the other teams. So, it's kind of out of their hands (at this point) whether they eventually finish higher in the standings. Even though NAS have a higher point total (23) than LAK (22), STL (22), DAL (22), SJS (21) and other teams, they also played more games.

ANother example, although EDM is in 13th place, they also played 3 less games than Nashville and have 18 points. If EDM adds 3 more wins to their record (will bring GP even with NAS), they will have 24 pts opposed to NAS's 23.

So, even if they are currently higher in the standing, the "..." means that, at this point in time, finishing higher in the standings is out of their hands because other teams have played less games.

NAS has a magic number for CBJ because CBJ sucks that bad and even if CBJ has one more win (bringing their GP even with NAS), they still won't exceed or be even in points.

Also remember...the column of the teams on the far right is the primary teams (Team A); and the teams in a row on top are the opposing teams (Team
<
. So CHI magic number to finish higher than Dallas is 44. PHX magic number to finish higher than DET is 57. etc....

ahh ok.. I guess I was just getting confused that teams like NSH didn't have magic numbers against most teams, but I guess I see what you're saying.

Yeah I realized that as I read your explanation... I don't know why but I had forgot that teams are going to have different magic numbers against each other.

OT, NSH row looks that way because they are actually #10 in the west, I know it's a tough sell to get most hockey fans to see the standing in true order, which is pts% but that's why some of the numbers are scattered.

I love that through the whole streak... Even going back to last year, they haven't ended with a 4-2 win. Yet it seems like it would be more common. You're up 3-2... and get an empty net, how hard is that. haha. I guess the other teams can be blamed for not being able to get 2 goals on us. We have only scored 4 to end a game once this year. (don't count SO win...) but did score more than that 4 times... so 25% of the games, hawks have score 4+ goals... hah.

So you're saying that the 4-2 win is more uncommon than a shutout? Lol!

Maybe we are jinxing it...

hahah I would imagine it is? No idea. I looked through the leagues last 5 days and saw 4 4-2 wins... 3 shutouts... 2 by the hawks. small sample size really means nothing.

Just when you think the Hawks hit their peak... they start shutting teams out. Really is incredible isn't it?
