Total War: Warrhammer II came out a while back and I grabbed it and liked it, but didn't get too deep into the main campaign.

Then they released a free DLC that merges the campaigns from I and II into one giant awesome campaign, so I been playing that.

And it made me notice my machine can only handle the game at lower graphics and smaller unit sizes :(

Then I realized.... my machine is 4.5 years old! Did not realize it has been that long.

Now I am looking at new gaming laptops.... going to wait... looks like next gen of Nvidia cards are coming out in July... I wanna wait and see if I can snag a 10 series machine for considerably less once they start putting out machines with the 11 series cards.

I game in my theater room or downstairs on my couch, laptop works much better than a desktop for my needs.

Yes it is always plugged in.... so are most laptops.

gave titan quest more time.. just using it as a time waster.....

the oracle be told me to go to the other side of sum cave to find out the source of da monsters. once i made my way beyond the cave, i came to the realization... that i am the monster... i traverse the lands slaying all that i can.. i rob the corpses of all i kill... then sell their bloodied goods.. i steal loot from chests, i disturb da dead and rob their sepulcher and coffins....yeah im da monster....

im glad the developers nerfed the amount of gear i can carry/store.. but will let me carry 1,000,000+ in gold. heard da gold in ancient times was lights as ****..

well, im about to say **** kingdom come deliverance. ive spent the last hour trying to get it to run at a steady 60 fps. its so poorly optimized that even with a 1080, at 1080p, i get constant frame drops even with everything set to "high." which is actually this games medium . and the weird thing is out in the open world i was running everything on ultra out except for lighting(very high) and was getting a steady 60 fps, but in town, at night, in a little hallway, i get drops despite massively lowering the settings.

it doesnt even look that great, and is even dropping frames despite headroom in regards to cpu and gpu usage. **** that.

lol, that game. Even if you get it running, the shit is broken with bugs.

Gaming laptops are ridiculous unless you spend like months out of the year on the road. Shit is a ripoff that's just gon cook itself. You can build a near top of the line (for gaming) desktop and buy a good ultrabook for less than a gaming laptop.

Well the one I have now has been working for me for 5 years and the one before that lasted me 4 years.

As I said to Aussie, I game on my couches either in my theater room or downstairs in front of my TV.... I'm not building a gaming desktop and then trying to setup monitors and junk in my living room.

Gaming laptop meets my needs at home and provide me mobility.... I have taken it on work trips.... once got stuck in the airport for like 6 hours.... found an empty gate area and an outlet and played Fallout 3 for 4 hours.

Gone are my teenage days where I build a gaming rig and coup myself up in a room in front of monitors for hours at a time.

I game in a theater room with my feet up and a drink in my hand.

Perhaps it wasn't obvious.... I don't feel cooped up with my laptop in my theater room.

I do in my office in front of monitors.

Everyone ok?

Ares prefers gaming laptops to building desktop rigs these days.

It is my money, not yours.

Chill out.

Look, I recognize I come from a biased position, especially if you don't care about pricing. You're going to do whatever you want. But I don't see anything you wrote that means you can't have a desktop hooked up to the TV with wireless inputs and have the same or better experience. The upside being that you can build a rig that will last 10-12 years with maybe one GPU upgrade in there. Or not. Whatever. Its just confusing to me to take on the negatives of a laptop when you mostly game at home. But then again, I don't have kids or anyone bugging me.

I think you're missing what I actually do.

I game while enjoying my TV or theater room system which is an HD projector + surround sound....

I am sitting 6-10 feet from my TV which is mounted above my fireplace or from my theater screen which is mounted on a wall in my loft.

For one, I have no desire to hook up a gaming rig to my TV or theater screen.... it would be strange.

For two, I want the TV or theater system to have TV/movies/documentaries on while I am gaming.... purposing it for the gaming screen completely defeats that.

And lastly.... even if I enjoyed the idea of building a rig and setting it up in my living room or theater room.... I have to disassemble and reassemble if I want to move upstairs or downstairs and when people come over I would need to disassemble and get it all moved out of the way.

With a laptop... I unplug the power, carry the laptop to where I want to be, and plug it back in... or if I am having people over I carry it to my office and set it on my desk.

I built gaming desktops for myself for like 10 years... I fully grasp they are more powerful.... easier to modify/upgrade.... more cost effective.... I am not debating any of these points.

A gaming laptop serves my ideal use case and I do not care about the downsides, at all.

I am not advocating for you or MT to buy one.... I am not advocating for anyone else to buy one.... I am not saying gaming laptops are better than gaming desktops... I am saying I buy them because they meet my needs the best and I have plenty of money to spend on them as they last me 4-5 years.

You know, I find it odd when retro gamers try to buy and repair(usually break) old laptops to run specific OSes for certain games that simply hate dosbox/emu/vm just for the purpose of saving space. Then they are super disappointed when all it does is give them issues.

But whatever you do, I have seen people do just fine as a PC gamer enthusiast for almost 20 years using a notebook as their main rig, especially with scene members(lan party regulars). Really since fully OpenGL 1.2ish and D3D 6-7 supported mobile platforms started being affordable. I have a Geforce 2 mobile notebook somewhere that I used as my travel machine for a year. So I totally get it.

Heck, you could get a 8809G based laptop soon... which is team.. purple, drives the fanboys nuts. I still don't get how the Ryzen Pro 2700U is rated at 15w TDP, while the 8809G is 100w TDP(although 16% faster). So yeah, you're probably going to want to see the 11 series, because that will be the fastest.
*Although with current price trends, you might be better off buying a new APU(or combined package CPU, like the 8xxxGs) laptop every 18 months for $1300-ish and invest in an eGPU than buying a new gaming laptop that is actually worth your while for $2500 every 4 years.

I grew up on the Commodore 64, and noticed that the C64-mini was recently released. However, it doesn't appear to be available in the US yet. Anyone have it?

i guess i just dont see the need to game in numerous places. im not cooped up at my pc, its in a wide open area. i can sit back with a controller when i feel like it.

i also never understood watching movies/tv while gamin, or vice versa. if i want to game, i game, if i want to watch a film, i watch a film.

ill admit, i dont get gamin laptops. i dont game on the go, and a small itx build with a reasonable sized monitor can take up no more room than a laptop. and weigh less.

you might not be telling us to buy one, but im telling you you shouldnt.

just kidding, i dont give a shit what you do. just throwing in my, unasked for, 2 cents.

I am weird.... I like to pair my gaming with stuff I want to watch.... but you have to remember I play alot of strategy games where I can pause as often as needed.

Like I will play Hearts of Iron 4 while I watch WWII documentaries or Band of Brothers or something similar.

Or I will play Stellaris while watching space-realm movies/shows.

Or I will play zombie games with zombie movies on in the background.... admittedly it is usually just background noise for these.

When I WFH I sit in my office for 8 hours a day.... I have no desire to replicate that experience while gaming.

oh, yea. you and your rts games. lol

ive never been able to get into them.

anyway, im still playing kingdom come. ive got in running pretty well at a steady 60fps with a mix of high/very high settings with only a dip here and there at night. and, knock on wood, no game breaking bugs yet. im still in the first town after the prologue, so im waiting until i really get out into the world and have leveled a bit before passing judgment.

I have one but no time to mess with it. But I also have a few OG C64s and Amigas/Amiga compatible PPCs. Amiga 2000 is the greatest PC of all time and the C64 is the second best. Sorry 5150 and IIe fanboys, I think your following stems from sheer nostalgia.

So the C64 mini has a lot to live up to IMO. Far more than the NES/SNES classic editions.
