The Bears are desperate for draft picks and Howard will clearly not be a Bear when his rookie deal expires at the end of next season.

I think it is worth moving him now, as long as a minimum threshold is met, before you lose him for nothing.

How many teams would Howard be a no questions asked starter for? The answer is not many and that is where his value diminishes a little.

imo, there really wont be much of a market for him and they will be better off keeping him at his 700k salary.

Howard
Cohen
3rd/4th round pick

I got a good chuckle out of using Cohen's production as an argument for Howard not being as good. Never mind the fact Cohen runs to the sideline to no fucking end and rarely can commit to a running lane or that he will never be a feature back that gets a ton of carries.

I got a chuckle out of holding onto a player who’s a bad fit just because of nostalgia. Even more funny.

First round pick is the least I would take. all this bullshit of bad fit must not be watching the playoffs and seeing the Rams running thehell out of the ball and the QB throwing for 168 yards.

All these coach of the year honors for Nagy and you'd think he would figure out how to use a guy straight ahead. Zone block, straight ahead, almost guarantees 5 yards and eats the clock.

Err rams don’t have the luxury of using a runningback who is averaging 3.7ypc. Sorry.

Nagy did what you wanted at the end of the year. He did it in the playoff game. Not his fault Howard got arm tackled and tripped up by his own man.

Nagy should never change his entire offense just to fit the needs of one player. If Howard doesn’t fit his scheme, you dump him and find someone else.

The Rams run an outside zone scheme and have a amazing offensive line and one of the most talented backs in the game. Bears have none of those things.

Lol this has nothing to do with committing to the run or the ways that Howard can be productive. Of course Nagy knows how to utilize his skill set which is what he did many times throughout the year.

Think about the way you're going to process the game and personnel decisions as playcaller. You trout out a split backfield with Cohen, Howard. You have Robinson, Miller, and Burton. The defense is ready for this look and knows that in a coverage situation they can afford to put that half a step slow LB/ weakest link in coverage on Howard. The type of impact that has play after play and series after series is huge for a playcaller. That is what will motivate a move if they make one.

What would I accept?

Without a proven legit replacement - 3rd rd pick

With a legit replacement - whatever we can get for him

His $700K next year for depth might be better than the 6th or 7th rnd pick that could be possible in a trade, which even that I doubt.

This.
If we ain't getting a 3rd in return from a desperate team like maybe the colts, dolphins, raiders etc. Just keep him another year..

If you get Hunt or a better fit then why keep him? So he can be disgruntled? There is something to be said for doing right by players if you want the kind of loyalty fans want. Or do we want a Bell or Brown situation?

If you get Hunt first, teams will be more likely to not trade for Howard, knowing he will likely be released. Unless a team really, really wants him.

The timing just isn't great to get full value for Howard in a trade. His least productive season, last year of rookie contract, and rummors the Bears may move on from him.

I don't expect to get full value for him. But if we do get Hunt then better to get something for him rather than let him potentially be disgruntled for all of 2019 and then walk in 2020 for free. Not worth the distraction to horde a player's rights that you don't even want on the team.

Howard has given us everything we asked of him. He deserves the right to move on if ultimately Nagy doesn't think he fits on the Bears.

I'd keep Howard if Bears aren't getting a 4th or higher in return. I'm sure Howard wouldn't be too happy. If Bears sign Hunt, he'll be suspended, use Howard/Cohen until Hunt comes off of suspension then toss Howard to the bench and use as needed. Howard only making $700k next season.

This assumes Howard doesn't boycott the first 10 games and then come back for the last 6. In the aftermath of the Bell situation, Howard may not want to risk injury for a team that doesn't apparently give a shit about him.

Has the NFL even announced how long Hunt is going to be suspended? I never heard 10 games other than from media personalities making that assumption. I wouldn't be surprised if they make an example out of him and make him sit out a whole season. As it stands he is in NFL purgatory where he can't play for anyone and they havn't suspended him yet either. So he is out indefinitely.

I agree with the bolded. My thoughts are he may not get the Bears anything, especially if they already have his replacement.

Don't think anything has been announced but you would hope the NFL does so before the start of the next league year.

If they did go all the way to 10 games then I would expect Hunt to appeal. Unless they can bring in evidence from other alleged incidents 10 games for a first offense would be unprecedented and likely to be reduced on appeal IMO.

I'm not exactly sure on this but it seems like we threw some balls to Howard in the first 2-3-4 games and he actually made some really good catches and then it just stopped and we didn't throw any balls to him for the last 12-13-14 games or whatever it was. I remember us talking on here the first few games in about how him putting in the time after practice where he was catching like 200 balls on the jugs machine or something like that and how much is must of helped cause i don't think he dropped a ball and like i said there were a few really good catches by him, so i wonder why that just stopped and they didn't throw to him anymore for the rest of the year.

In 3 years he has caught a lil over 20 catches with a lil over 75 percent catch rate... better than many receivers per target.
I saw the same thing you did. It's like he just stopped being a receiving threat after the first few games.

I disagree. There really is nothing elite about Howard. He is a good player, but does not really possess a single elite skill. He reminds me a lot of Mark Ingram, with a little less juice.

Disagree about your disagreement. Howard improved on his catching and routes running. He is the definition of a bellcow back but wasn't utilized properly
