prove it...and then tell me the last time you were within 500 miles of the place you defend so much

I haven't been there. I know people who have, and I trust their opinion more than yours because they're far more intelligent and open-minded than you are. It takes more than a couple of pics of lesbians to put me off a new town.

Costa Rica and other assorted Latin American countries are for retirees looking to live better, or Expats.

Too many fruits and nuts in SF. Nashville I have visited twice, loved it. In fact, if you remove Memphis and that shithole Chattanooga on either end of the state...everything in-between is pretty cool.
Tennessee is the greatest state I have ever visited. Not too backwoods south, just an overall beautiful an awesome state. I love visiting. Going next Thursday!! Buddies and me are taking off work to go down to nashville...

Bringin da boat!!! dats right ole and HHM, tell the kids to take a hike n go on vaca! We're takin da boat to board n tube on da river!

In all seriousness though, I love Nashville. I'm burned out of the broadway strip and a ll the touristy stuff; just oveall though I love the city. It's really clean and the neighborhoods are a blast. Good restaurants for dates and such in Vanderbilt area. My best friend is officially moving to east Nashville next month!

Can't blame bud on this one. I like weird shit, but I can only imagine living around those attention whores every damn day of my life.Sorry, Mick. Gonna have to agree that theirs quite a difference between vacation and living in a spot.

I agree and disagree with him.

I wouldn't want to live right in Asheville either and the town he happens to live in is the nicest in the area in my opinion.

On the flip side, people cut from a different cloth don't bother me a bit and would probably go downtown on occasion if I lived there. It's also been my experience that the "weird" factor is limited to a pretty small chunk of Asheville. Granted this is based on limited experience.

I just got off the phone with the state of TX and have an interview next week so I might stick around ha

Desperado, East Nashville was my potential target area.

Easy....Los Angeles basin(Orange County, etc.). I have no idea why anyone would want to live anywhere else. You can go to the beach and surf and to the mountains and ski in the same day. Weather is great, women are hot, and there is always something to do. Bishop is awesome and offers some of the best fishing in the state and is only a 3-4 hour drive away.

I agree with this. Most of Orange County and San Diego County is very nice. LA is hit and miss though. The beach communities are awesome, as is the Pasadena area, but there are a lot of places in between that I would not want to live in. Throw in the traffic and the "fake" people and it's sometimes unbearable. Another downside is that they really make it hard for businesses in LA b/c they tax the shit out of you and a lot of business are moving out. But if you pick the right area, there isn't anywhere else I'd rather live, except for Hawaii. Like DB said, there's tons of stuff to do here, and I actually did the ski in the morning, go to the beach in the afternoon thing a few years ago.

1 vote for hawaii if you can do your job remotely online and can make enough to live there. I dont care which island you chose, Hawaii.

My goal is to retire there. Just trying to decide between Maui and Kauai. Damn, now you're gonna have me daydreaming about Hawaii!

Huge difference, vacationing in Florida was much better than residing there...6 months of humid rain in summer is almost as bad as winter in Chicago.

To OP: Nope, never been to Austin...TX I assume.

Too hot.

I'm thinking about a move. I'm not considering all of these cities and threw a few in just for fun. I hate the cold. I'm single with no kids. My professional background is tech and finance-related.

a. Portland
b. Nashville
c. Boulder
d. Denver
e. San Francisco/Bay Area
f. Chicago
g. Asheville
h. Los Angeles
i. Seattle
j. New Orleans
k. other

Why da **** would you leave Texas?

Seriously... if I didn't live in Texas I'd pick Seattle.

That would've been sweet. I woulda saw you for some Bear games this year down there, as I'll be goin quite often to visit. Lemme know if it changes and you end up hitching up to Nashville. What do you do if you don't mind my askin; seems like you travel round.

Still have same sentiments about Austin? I want to visit bad.

Lol. No. At least not in my opinion. I'll take a afternoon thunderstorm in the summer every day that's done in like an hr or two vs. months of gloom, freezing cold and snow. F that. Also don't pretend like it doesn't get hot / humid as **** during the summer in IL too.

I would rather deal with Japanese giant hornets than go through another Illinois winter.
I have flashbacks from this winter.

Not that this fucking summer has been anything to brag about. What a shit one so far. Now it's cold. And it's been rainy/stormy every week, too. **** Illinois. Next thing I know it's going to be December again and I'm going to be crying, drinking a corona, listening to Jimmy Buffett music, staring at boatin pictures and completating on a one way ticket to Tahiti and live it on the Islands pourin drinks as bartender like Tom Cruise in Cocktail.

Somewhat serious.

I moved here for a job with Apple. I resigned a few weeks ago. A lot of my movement is wanderlust-based. Austin is a great city but extremely congested. I'm open to sticking around for the right opportunity though.

Wanderin' old soul. I feel same way sometimes. Did you enjoy Nashville when you went?

Auspicious beginnings, ya know what I mean?

I've actually most enjoyed this summer thus far. If its hot and humid chances are a awesome thunderstorm is on the way. If its sunny its around 75-80 and pleasant.
