If Beckham goes there goes the White Sox chances of the playoffs for 2013. (Not that it looks possible anyways)

You all forget how bad we are with awful defense. Beckham hits in the two hole and his OPS is better (Mid May til Youkie was acquired) than we've had in some time.

Keppinger is no lock to play 140+ games either.

 right because beckham is the difference maker for us making the playoffs or not. wow

No, he's not, but he is better than Jeff easily overall. You don;t break up baseball's best DP combination.

I honestly don't think it matters  Keppinger isn't going to be the ticket to awesome, he's just kind of there as a useful guy who makes a lot of contact and doesn't strike out a bunch. I imagine he'll play 3B mostly. If they did trade for Hannahan, I imagine he'd be a platoon partner for Keppinger (who I think is overpaid but not when you take into account how shitty the 3B market is) than a replacement for Beckham.

ok, maybe we are getting a big bat in here somehow which is why we picked up this bum. :nervous:

Keppinger is a career .288 hitter...far from a bum. Also a career .333 hitter vs LHP.

Hyperbole at its finest.

Keppinger barely strikes out. Sox lineup desperately needed a guy like him.

Quit with the Beckham love. He is what he is.

I would love to add a big time bat. Package Beckham, Floyd and others for one

WSox need to add some lefty pop, and at this point if they feel like spending money they should go and get AJ back.

Keppinger will either play 3rd or keep 2nd warm for Sanchez IMO. If they can package Beckham in a deal expect either Sanchez to make the big club or for the Sox to acquire a surprise 3B.

Heard he was looking for like 3 years and between 4-6 million per. Kinda expensive for a super sub. He makes a lot of contact, but no power and no speed and average d. As a sub and maybe less than $4million per, ok. Starting 3b. No thanks

So, you'd rather have Morel then? 12MM for his xBA and OBP is fine with me. I'd rather have you play 3B than Morel.

Although I'm not happy with the years they laid down for him, I am happy with the type of player we SHOULD get (barring age not wearing him down). Sometimes we just have to put the ball in play and that's not something our big bopper lineup is keen to doing.

Personally, the sad part about this whole thing is how us Sox fans are so damn excitied about a journeyman utility guy. oh well, solid move is my initial opinion

You all missed my pointon Beckham, but that's really a different thread.

As for Jeff he's a Bum. Never played in 140 games in his career.
About to be 33 years old.
Played over 50 games once at 3b and fielding wise he stunk.
Hitting - he is a singles hitter with no speed.
There's a reason he changes teams yearly. He's a bum. A MLB bum, but a bum none the less. He's had his shot to prove himself and he's proven to be a utility player and that is it.

The love many of you all show him reminds me of the love many Cub Fans show their 24th/25th man on the roster. Totally unjustified.

Can he hit? Probably. With any power? None. Can he field the position? History says no. Can he play 140 games? History again says no.
He is not the answer at 3b and no where near the answer as a replacement to Gordon at 2b if that is what you want to do. And now the Sox, who are tight with the budget, have $4 million less per year to play with.

I have a great idea. Tell me that I am campaigning for Fields and Morel. It's what some of the "Sox Fan" on here like to say. It's unfortuantely all they have to say.

Can you really get that excited about a guy who broke his leg falling down the stairs?

To be fair, he's not completely clueless. Keppinger isn't a bum; he's definitely useful as a contact hitter who doesn't strike out a lot and can be plugged into different positions all over the diamond. The problem is that he doesn't do anything particularly well. For the money paid to him he'll give you about what you would expect.
