You bring up the stat of the two hole, but not the two hole of his last six weeks being there where is OB% was over .305 Please take a moment and consider that. Perhaps he got out of it, but we won't know unitl he's given that shot again for a real peropd pf time,. not just 10-12 weeks but a full season.

thats.not.fucking.good.

you forgot that joe nathan was going to win comeback player of the year over Dunn. lol

Nathan was a better candidate but it's not the best that wins an award all the time

And I already admitted I was wrong there :smh:

I have to give Brett his dues, he is a hell of a troll and he sticks to his guns.

I don't think he's :soxtroll: ing here...he actually believe Beckham is better. It may very well be true, but based on what we know, it's very unlikely.

Not a troll and we disagree when wether you want Jeff or Gordon at 2b. I think I've shown clearly that Beck is the choice

Oh well

What you've done is shown clearly why you *think* Beckham should be the choice which is an opinion that is unfortunately not strongly backed by the facts at hand.

I'll have to recheck my calcs but the facts of the numbers do bcan me in my opinion

Clutch, dp %, fielder, speed, power, ability to play mote than 120 games, flexibility in payroll all favor Gordon

No. You argue even though there are numbers to disprove your claim. Obvious troll is obvious.

1) not "clutch"
2) isnt fast (speed)
3) minimal power
4) flexibilty in payroll? really? oh boy that 3.5 million more for kepp is a bank buster. lol

so basically no stats just really outlandish opinions. awesome talk

Brett,

My only gripe with what you're saying is that the numbers you are posting aren't real, and if they are I cannot find them anywhere under any search term.

I've used BBR, Fangraphs, a home made stat generator that produces aggregate numbers based on unique search terms, and I can't find any 6 week stretch where Beckham OPS'd 800+ in the 2 hole.

I've said it previously in this thread, the theory of Beckham, good-great fielder, occasional power, is a great theory. I like that theory a lot. But the actual results are so bad that I don't think they merit a starters role in the modern game of baseball.

Before the power revolution I do think that Beckham would be a positive on most teams. But 2B hit well now. Beckham can't make up the difference with his glove IMO. He isn't a first division starter.

Most important first. You've been very classy in this discussion. Thank you.
I re-ran the numbers and I got the same answers as the first except for game count (I added the header row as a game..:obama:)
Then about twenty minutes ago, I figured out my error. I was computing SLG% as Hits plus 2* 2b + 4* hr instead of Hits, plus 2b + 3* hr (Beck had no triples during that stretch.

Now I get .264/.311/.410/.721 :)

1) Used the stat baseball reference uses for key hits. That's clutch
2) Faster than Jeff by quite a bit actually
3) More power too
4) Yep, for us it does make that difference
