that is up for debate. If Deaza gets on and doesnt steal (which the sox love running into outs) if you have the 2 hole hitter more of K candidate it is an out but it is way more unproductive and with this lineup and Dunn batting 3rd you do not want that.

this was also said today but our GM who is more a metrics guy and he even believes that too many K's is not a great thing to have in the lineup (see our discussion on twitter about reynolds)

Yeah.

Essentially in a vacuum individual strikeouts do not matter so much when you are evaluating a player IMO.

However, as taken into consideration for team construction certain factors, BB% K% etc etc, do matter en total.

I agree with the principle that not striking out is a good thing, but production trumps that. Luckily Keppinger should offer both OBP (I do question the ability to maintain that playing 150+ games a season which I did prior to the signing) and not striking out, but if the choice is one of those two in two spot I would take OBP every time.

One of the biggest issue for me is Jeff's incredibly high DP%. He's about 50% worse then the average major leaguer and that's going to be really high for our club. De Aza really needs to work hard on his base stealing skills to help keep us out of those DPs

We disagree

how do you figure we have that luxury to **** with a shitty hitter in the 2 hole with a tigers team who replaced young with hunter, have vmart coming back...and the royals a much better team.

This relates to a question I had in another thread...do you White Sox fans believe your favorite team is still in contend mode, or do you believe they are in a build/rebuild mode?

they are kind of in both. The team is behind the Tigers and need a lot of things to go right to be back in contention again. The best chance they have of that is with Beckham seeing if he's just a slow starter (like some of other chicago secondbasemen) and can hit and be productive. IMO Beckham has shown he could be that guy, but as for Jeff, IMO we know his peak is a weak sauce, low stirkeout, high avg hitter.

The Sox can do both the testing of young players and the chance to see just how good they can be in June.

I think they are going to try to contend. signing peavy and not moving rios, dunn, konerko, etc etc kinda states they are going to try to contend.

If they are good in June they can acquire a vet, if not, they can trade what they have and start a full rebuild if they wish. I would rather be in a position of strength, but since we aren't, this is a pretty good place to be, a fence rider if you will.

The reason why I ask is that if you want the team to contend, you don't put an even more weaksauce hitter in the #2 spot than Jeff Keppinger.

Beckham has shown his ability for periods of time to show his growth. Would it conitnue? Fact is no one knows. But he's the better option as a protypical #2 if he can maintain his production as the #2. Like I showed with stats, his numbers were better OPS wise for just about 27% of the season then any other #2 hitter we had in 2012. He shows much more power, better baserunning, the ability to stay out of double plays plus his fabulous glove as stated by many real baseball excutives, not internet fans. If we get an upgrade then we revisit, but IMO we have no one better to play 2b right now for the team and quite possibly no one better to hit second on the team too.

Unless I am mistaken, weak sauce refers to power. No one on the team is weaker sauce then Jeff amongst the potential starters.

Once again, Dews likes to play child games with the feedback and threaten banning because it's not him doing the feedback. Hilarity ensues some more.

You do understand that this can stop if at least one of you grows up, right?

As for your other points, putting all your money on 27% of the season where Beckham sucked less than usual is probably not the way one should be evaluating a baseball player.
