Even with the first step completed, the deal is far from complete. The Dodgers would be taking on $253 million in salary, an absurd sum even considering the clear willingness of new ownership to spend, all while giving up loads of future value. The Red Sox have the rights to pull Gonzalez back off waivers in the event a trade isn't completed in the next 48 to 72 hours.

Jeeeeeezus...

ESPNBoston's @GordonEdes reports: #RedSox & #Dodgers working on deal that would send AGon, Crawford, Beckett and Punto to LA.

per twitter

THIS IS FUCKING HUGE!

Possibly both  Now they can move their big shot prospects around for something of super-substance instead of Ryan Dempster I guess.

yeah AGon back in the NL West, Beckett moving AL to NL, Crawford is still a question mark, but likely the reason Boston is pushing this deal, and Punto is a great utility player. The Dodgers will have this division easily if this trade somehow goes through

Crawford is also unavailable for like a year due to Tommy John so I find his inclusion to be a deal-breaker. Maybe the Dodgers are stupid.

Epic Win for Cherington if it goes through and Epic Fail for rest of NL

This will be interesting, Saunders never really did that well in the AL with LAA, and he is another pitcher switching NL to AL, hope it works out for the Birds but highly doubt it

EDIT (UPDATE)
Per Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun's twitter, retweeted by Buster Olney
Joe Saunders will likely start wed or thurs versus CWS. It's possible he could start Tues if Gonzalez needed in relief today.

So never mind, I hope this move blows up in the O's face

If AJ is hurt maybe catcher? It makes no sense to tackle that contract and it's likely that the Twins would pull him back anyway.

I agree. his contract is nuts.

in fantasy world I guess you can put dunn in LF, DH konerko or mauer

Dunn in right, Konerko at DH, Mauer at 1st, and AJ catches, I am completely joking about seriously getting him because it wont happen, but I have loved Mauer since his rookie season in Minnesota and would love to have him here

The one thing that would benefit the sox if they got mauer would be the huge huge PR move it would be and a huge statement to the rest of baseball and the fans
