Softberg a huge sleeper? What's next, he'll be in the running for the Rocket Richard?
Dave Bolland, if he stays healthy (and produces as he has in the past when healthy) you've all of a sudden got 3 offensively effective lines, and the pressure is off of the top 2 ... makes the team that much tougher to match up against, as most teams have more offensively oriented guys than they do effective checkers.
Runner up - Corey Crawford- looking forward to seeing what he can do with 6 NHL calibre defensemen in front of him as opposed to the 3 or 4 he had last season night in and night out.
Kind of off-topic, but I think the Bickell-Bolland-Frolik third line could be one of the best if not the best third line in the league.
If they play like they did vs vancouver...no doubt
Funny thing is that I don't see Bickell playing on the 3rd line automatically, he is fairly soft for a big guy (and he's bigger, phyiscally, that 25). I know how Quenneville is with his lines, so I expect things to change within a game, let alone gaame to game - but I would imagine that he might try out Frolik and Olesz with Bolland and see how things go.
I think the team keeps hoping Bickell will develop into a power forward, based upon his size, but so far he just plays the part of a big forward that is still looking to find his inner mean streak.

Edit:
Ok I'll bite, Dewey - If you do put Stahlberg on the 4th line - exactly what line are you seeing as the checking line, and who is on it? Assuming of course that you think using a checking line in a game is worthwhile.
The point being, Stalberg is not a checking forward, and would be a liability on a line dedicated to that.
Checking line? shutting down guys?
It's all about goals and points around here.
I'd still like those Stalberg haters give me facts of why he sucks?[/QUOTE]
CO is that you?
When you have the supposed skill set that Stalberg has, you are expected to produce points especially when you are courting him to be in the top 6. Points are a factor when you are in the top 6, period. If he is on the fourth line and does what he does, he doesnt suck, and he isnt good, he is what he is, a 4th liner. So to say goals and assts are meaningless when you are courting him for the top 6 and wanting Q to use him in that way more, you are just.....blind.
Tell me why he doesnt suck. Oh because he was in the top for the team in hits........when we had zero guys that can do that, so really no competition there. Oh his zone coverage? hasnt that been your arguement along with how "aggressive" he has been.
he skates fast though

Lets break it down this way. This is his 3rd year in professional Hockey, thats usually about the average it takes for young guys to develop. Most of these guys spent that amount of time in Rockford, not Stalberg, he made it from the get go. Give the kid a chance to develop into the North American game.
Stalberg in that role last year became more defensive later in the year. He started to hit more, and became very reliable in his defensive zone. I've never said he is so good because he can hit, last years team was full of pussies except for Scott.
Stalberg is an exceptionally fast skater. He spent his life playing on international ice surfaces, which is larger than the usual NHL rink. This is the part where once Stalberg learns to use his strength along with that speed on these little rinks, he's going to be a very good forechecker.
Now lets hear something where you say only points matter, or just totally twist my words around to make you look better. Ready go...

Skating fast doesnt equal above avg skating ability. You obviously watch him play, and he cannot move other than straight. His stick handling is horrible, his shot selection is piss poor. He doesnt have the tools to become a top 6 forward. Again, just because you can skate fast doesnt mean you are a good hockey player, you should know that. H/E coordination has to be one of the worst I have seen from a guy that supposedly has all this potential.
I didnt twist any words. Top 6 forward, points matter. simple.
Again you state that he is reliable in the defensive zone? correct? How does this mean he should be in the top 6?
When we have this discussion again next offseason, are you going to be still saying how young he is?
What facts do you need? Just watch him.
The clown can't even produce with Kane & Toews.
Rusty Olesz sucks but Softberg is god.

Go to the 29 second mark & see one of his special plays.

With his speed he shouldn't be the puckhandler on the line, which is why I said he needs to learn that forecheck role. I dont know how you can judge his hand eye, he was rarely in front of the net.
Sure points do matter, and when you get a legit chance in the top 6 the points will come along with the talent around you.
The defensive coverage matter because 7 of our top 9 are solid 2 way players, and can hold their own defensively. Him becoming more realible on D, could lead him to more playing time. This is going to be a 2-way up and down the ice team, funny the role they had Stalberg develope in last year.
Like I said when he signed this contract, it's his make or break contract. If he fails he wont be here, if he does what expected, new contract. I still think it's funny you guys expect him to be this great player and this is going to be his 2nd "full " NHL season :smh:

I think icehog said he was good in the defensive zone though, I dont think he said anything about the offensive zone. haha!

Even if Stalberg has the talent to be a top 6 guy, he won't be on this team. Players like Sharp, Toews, Hossa, Kane, Brunette, Smith, and maybe Frolik will be up there. They're all better than Stalberg in my opinion.
Touche -- well then they'd have loved the 1985-86 Hawks then - I think they had 3 x 40 goal scorers, Savard I think set a points record, and Troy Murray missed a 100 point season by I think 1 point....
The team set a record for goals scored - over 4 a game iirc, although they literally gave up almost as many (it was within a few - but not going to look it up -would rather go with memory).
I think the_chicago_fan has this about right.

I remember listening to it on the radio...
talk about having a solid second line ... Olczyk and Fraser both scored about a ppg (Fraser might have had more- but I think I remember him only playing like 68 games that season but being on pace for 40 goals himself).
