I understand the question and am not dodging it intentionally, but I still think this team goes as Keith goes. Sure, he counts as a big name and therefore technically shouldn't count as defined for this thread, but as our kids reach their potential, he's the man holding the keys.

Funny you should mention this. Ive been saying all along that Keith wasnt much different last year than the Cup year. He just wasnt as lucky. Both seasons he made it a habit of making situationally dangerous passes at poor times....Cup year he got away with it, last year things evened out. He's got far too much talent for that. There are times you need to take chances but he needs to do a better job of picking his spots.

Kind of off-topic, but I think the Bickell-Bolland-Frolik third line could be one of the best if not the best third line in the league.

I agree that line can be VERY GOOD, but any line with Jordan Staal and Maxime Talbot can have me on the other wing and be the best third line in hockey.

But Talbot is in Philly now.

Talbot is in Philly now? Yeah that's right. Old habits. Who is on a line with Staal now? That's sick to have that guy as your third line center. I'm not sure he isn't a one in a lot of places. Of course that's what happens when you have the two guys they have...

I don't know who would be on his line. I don't pay that much attention to the Pens, but the loss of Talbot effects that line a lot.

From what little I have seen here- I think this is spot on; unfortunately I think that some get a little "hockey cards back" syndrome thing happening and neglect what is actually happening out there on the ice.

I do think that 2 put the weight of the team on his shoulders and thought that he could do enough to make up for not really having a bottom defencive pairing... of course, that ends up = attrition and it might work every now and then, but in the longer run -things do even out.

Of course at the same time there are stats for everything anymore -which I am not sure what that means -- the only one that matters is the team getting the 2 points from one game to the next.

That is so true. Watching those games in 2010, I'd be screaming "what the hell are you looking at, Dunc?" when he'd try those dumbass cross ice passes but he almost never got burned by them. Hawks would win, hey...no problem. Last year, different story. He got caught with his hand in the cookie jar a lot and turned a 3 year run as a plus player to a minus player. He's the Hawk's most important defenseman and they need him to be a rock of consistancy. If he does that, everything else should take care of itself and the wins should follow.

I agree with this. Now that there are more defensemen maybe Keith won't have as much pressure. He will probably still be logging huge minutes, but maybe won't feel the pressure of having to make up for lack luster bottom pairings. He also won't have the pressure of being the Norris winner.

The current discussion of defenseman dovetails nicely with who I think the x-factor for next season will be, and that is Nick Leddy. With Campbell and Campoli not on the team, Nick Leddy will play an important role as a puck moving defenseman. Given the style of play that has made the Hawks successful the past few seasons, I think whether Leddy takes a big step forward in his development this offseason is going to go a long ways to determining the outcome of this season.

I definitely agree. There were times last year that he looked fantastic and times where he didn't look very good at all. I would like to see him improve and fully develop this season because the Hawks need him to be good for them to be good. Definitely a top choice for x-factor.

Speaking of Leddy, I couldn't have been any more wrong about that trade. I remember being completely pissed that we traded Barker for the senior citizen Johnsson and "some spare prospect". Turns out Johnsson played about a week and Leddy was the gem in that entire trade. I wouldn't give up Leddy for Barker right now.

Ahhhahahahaha... Suck it Minnesota.

Love Leddy.

I was pumped about Barker for Leddy when it happened. Cam was pretty worthless and we got a top 4 d-man in the process. Minnesota... moves like that are why they are stagnant.

Glad you brought this up. I actually went back n forth with someone here on it. The guy was saying that Leddy was a strong prospect, I'd never heard of him and shot down the trade. Dont remember who it was but I :bowrofl: to his knowledge of young players. He was right on target...I was dead wrong.

2011-12 X-Factor for Blackhawks?

Who do you think will have a breakout season on the 3rd/4th lines or pairings?
