Extrapolate the problems to pitchers. Have you seen the massive differences in WAR between certain sites and what pitchers do?

WAR sucks. It can't even be calculated ONE way. different places have different factors. On top of this defense is the WORST area to try and figure WAR at. What is pitchers WAR heavily based on? Oh yeah, the defensive side of the game. It's tough enough to separate offensive performance based on context of lineup blah blah blah, let alone separate a pitcher on defense(which WAR is terrible for as shown) from his other teammates. I've seen numerous seasons where some pitchers are top 20 WAR pitchers on one side, then a below replacement level on the other. Pitchers WAR is laughably bad even compared to position player WAR. I mean for fuck sakes I think Fangraphs WAR doesn't even factor in hits allowed. I think all BR uses is runs allowed really. I'm sorry but if you can;t see why pitchers WAR is worthless I would question your sanity.

Saying FG's WAR metrc doesn't use "defense" for pitchers WAR is asinine because that's what Pitchers WAR is. A defensive rating because pitchers are defensive players.

What do you mean it doesn't date back far enough? You can just put the other stats we do have into the formula and find a result... just because the stat isn't readily available doesn't mean it isn't usable.

Ideally you should be able to just plug in the numbers into the formula, but maybe the park effects aren't completely worked out or something. I'm not familiar enough with SIERA to make a judgment.
