John McLaughlin, Fripp, Stevie Ray? Jack White is unbelievably talented. Stills and Young in the same not a guitar band.

Anyone that missed Jack White's opening track on SNL this past weekend, find it, unquestionably one of the greatest performances I have seen in years. An instant classic, guy is a fucking genius.

Adrian Belew

Thanks to Brian Eno’s advice after seeing Adrian Belew onstage during a Frank Zappa concert, Bowie offered to hire Belew once the Zappa tour was finished. Belew recalled on his Facebook page how he met Bowie in Berlin during one of the shows.

“So I walked over to David Bowie, shook his hand and said, ‘I love what you’ve done, thank you for all the music.’ And he said, ‘Great, how would you like to be in my band?’ I motioned back towards Frank and said, ‘Well, I’m kind of playing with that guy.’ David laughed and said, ‘Yes, I know, but when Frank’s tour ends my tour starts two weeks later. Shall we talk about it over dinner?’”

Later, he said, “We arrived at the restaurant, went in the front door, and who should be sitting at the very first table but Frank Zappa and the rest of the band! So the three of us sat down with Frank and the band. David, trying to be cordial, motioned to me and said, ‘Quite a guitar player you have here Frank.’

“And Frank said, ‘**** you, Captain Tom.’ (Note: Frank had demoted David from Major Tom to Captain Tom.)

“David persisted, ‘Oh come on now Frank, surely we can be gentleman about this?’

“Frank said, ‘**** you, Captain Tom.’

“By this point I was paralyzed. David said, ‘So you really have nothing to say?’ Frank said, ‘**** you, Captain Tom.’

“David and Coco and I got up and went back out the front door. Getting in the limo David said in his wonderfully British way, ‘I thought that went rather nicely!’ ”

He did a lot of the sound track for Cold Mountain. Beautifully melodic acoustic work. There was a special where he was together with Page and The Edge where they were talking and trading riffs. Lets just say one stood out.

We've managed to leave out Knopfler.

To the OP, I aw Zeppelin live. It was the Physical Graffiti Tour. Early stop before or just when the album broke and they came out energetic. Freaked the audience out without the bluesy tilt. Great concert but some of the crowd seemed disappointed and confused.

Was at a concert at the Arie Crown. Dual bill of John McLaughlin and Jeff Beck. They didn't jam on stage but.

I saw that tour also. Not the same setlist.

They did Six Blade Knife at the set I saw, and it was a great version, with a very extended solo.

Love that song.

Belew was certainly the Twang Bar King for a few years in the 80s, but Fripp's work with Bowie was more fruitful imo.

Pete Townshend can only remain relevant by being an asshole. Something even omeletphuc couldn't manage.

Agreed. I know chet atkins is the shit but knopfler was my inspiration for finger-picking
The shit he does is crazy. He's got that guitar pick on his thumb too. You play? What kind of guitar you got? Right now, I still have my Washburn HSS. Nothing fancy, but it's actually a pretty solid guitar. Easy to play. Really wish I never stopped, or that I would've hassled my parents about lessons back when I was 14. Definitely gonna get a new one though. I'm leaning towards this:

Want to give it a play.
