Where does the blame go?

Over the last 5-6 years, Id say ...

25-30% of the blame to - Ozzie, nit much
35-45% of the blame to KW, not just for his moves but also for the way the conducts business, two falling outs with ex- sox players, SMH
25-30&- to Reinsdirf...... for not firing one of the two sooner...

We also kept the wrong manager in hindsight, to me anyway. Shoulda given Ozzie that contract he wanted....then JR woulda had to let KW go....

As Theo Epstein has said in the past, 10 years is about as long as a GM can remain effective with one major league team. Williams has been here since 2000. He brought the Sox a World Series title and I'm eternally grateful to him for that, but IMO it's time to let Hahn take over. Maybe he can turn this ship around.

I know you hate the Sox, but this is pretty tea party-esque desperate of you.

nahh if I went Tea Party esque it would be me saying..

"He won a World Series.. but he doesn't deserve credit for building it cause I don't like him.. so let's go get a new guy."

great post! way to think it through. By the way mark teahen was traded last year to the blue jays as a salary dump.

yay! another guy who is hot for closers and relief pitchers! yay! sergio santos is replaceable!

And yet CNM looks stupid again for his hand clap response.

How hard has it been to secure a closer since Jenks was good?

not hard, we didnt have one for the first month of last season.

oh and since its such a must to have a closer.

2005: shingo, hermanson, and jenks as closers. we had 3....so your point? yeah not valid. keep trying though!

Minus the part where you actually answered what I asked..

Since Jenks was good.. how many closers have you gone through?

3 in one month. how is that even relevant? yay KW is bad because we used 3 closers in april of last year.

again, if you know an average amount about baseball there are 2 things to remember.

1) closers are not a premium

2) closers should never be LHP

anything else?

You're forgetting the parts when Jenks was here and wasn't effective.. It's not just last year.

Closers blow saves all the time. Relievers are the hardest to project and evaluate because they pitch just one inning and they're either awesome or they shit the bed.

In regards to the lefty thing, I'm sure these are probably more the exception than the rule (what with there being many more right-handed players than lefties) but:

3 of the top 10 leaders in career saves are lefties (the two you listed are 4-5 respectively and Randy Myers checks in at number 9). To be fair you then have to go alway the down to number 30 before another lefty pops up on the list in Dave Righetti. I think while it is less likely to find a left handed reliever effective enough to be a closer it isn't impossible.

right, those two for sure....but as a lefty/righty matchup i want a righty as my closer since left handed hitters arent the majority of the roster

I hate to abandom my team but I HATE KENNY WILLIAMS! He's a Special person! I can see trading some players but Santos??? We needed a closer and he was young?? Kenny has done nothing but **** up since the WS outside of Danks.

I've been really patient with Williams and given him the benefit of the doubt many times, but he's been here now over 10 years. I think it's time to give Hahn control and see what he can do. I really think he is the real deal and can turn this team around.
