Because Ken Williams is known to be frugal and is a whiz on financial matters...Peavy, Rios, Dunn, etc.

dunn good signing (than again you probably are one to love BA as a real amazing stat, and you probably think K's are zomg! when they are outs no matter what)

peavy had 70% of his salary paid by an insurance company (doubt KW takes the risk without that protection)

Rios wasnt a good move at all, it wasnt like he had to have him, he got duped on a block of detroit and it back fired. it happens to all GMs including the messiah in theo....you know the team that cleared how many millions cleaning up a mess in boston.

not true. if you are going by old testament baseball guides than maybe I can see where you are coming from. Fangraphs ETC have all written pieces in their studies that show that the specifics of a K mean what they are, an out and that moving a guy over, sac flies are so irrelevant to a course of a season. I do understand however where you feel that way. IMO I find Ks to be outs as well especially for sluggers (HR hitters). Now if there is a guy on your team that is not a slugger and is career wise a guy who makes productive outs than a high K rate would have more effect on the team.

I guess I don't really see Williams' financial acumen. He signs veterans to big contracts...some of them work out, others don't. Any GM can do the same thing with the same financial backing. Ken Williams can also approve his own $2.7M "loan" to pay for his house, too.

If you think at this point Dunn was a good signing, you probably are one to forget everything that happened prior to 2012. I think at this point, we can safely say the Dunn signing has not paid off yet.

I think you missed what I meant orginally before this started. Its not that he is the greatest thing when it comes to overpaying guys, what I was trying to say is that no matter who he has or hasnt overpaid for he will be overseeing where JRs budget is and what Hahn wants to do and seeing if the money works for the budget....thats the direction I was going. Not the specifics of player to player contracts.

As far as Dunn, his 2011 season was horrible..yes. Out of shape, in pain most of the season on every swing, league adjustments all played a role in his 2011 season. I think after coming back in 2012 he is what he is...pretty much back to career norms. His BA should take a hit and Ks should go up being in the AL, thats par for the course. Your best pitchers are in the AL currently and a number 2/3 in the NL is probably a 3a/4 in the AL.
