You don't believe for one second that Woj asked an assistant what's going on, and the assistant didn't want to say a word?
No I don't because it wasn't Woj who spoke to the "assistant", it was an unnamed "visitng scout". Scout of what? Well none of us have a damn clue.
When a visiting scout visited the Bulls practice facility in the past year or so, he had the opportunity to watch the awkward, strange interplay between Bulls general manager Gar Forman and Thibodeau. Eventually, the man walked into the office of an assistant coach and asked: "What the hell is the deal here?"
Before answering, the coach turned his fan on full blast. For the visitor, everything was becoming even stranger. He gave the assistant a befuddled look, as though to say, "What are you doing?"
"I'm not taking any chances," the coach said, refusing to risk the possibility of those walls being bugged.
This reads like bad creative writing. "A visiting scout visited the Bulls".... Christ, my 8 year old niece can write better than that. "What the hell is the deal here?" Who in the world walks into someone's office, in which they are a visitor mind you, and throws out a loaded question like that peppered with an expletive? No one does that in real life.
We all know that Thibs and the FO don't have a buddy-buddy relationship. Nor has any coach had one with Paxson during his tenure at the top of the Bulls FO. However, this isn't exclusive to one team. There are plenty of coaches and their FO's who are not always on the same page. George Karl didn't get along with his FO in Denver for years, yet he still coached them for 9 seasons. Phil and Krause couldn't STAND each other and won 6 championships together.
There is nothing concrete in this story to me that indicates that their relationship is irreparably damaged. The entire 1st half of the article is Woj taking quotes from Thibs completely out of context and trying to spin it that "Thibs knows" his time is up after this year. Thibs is talking about how with almost every team the window for championships is small and that his players know they have the best chance to win now more than ever. That's where the "This is it" line comes in.
To add to this, K.C. Johnson, the REAL Bulls insider, has repeatedly said he believes Thibs will be back next season. If he's not reporting this, then it gives me serious pause to any veracity within this article.
