I have switched to the vegan supplements, as their purpose is to cater to the highly selective community that cares about alkalinity, organic sources, and the like. Plus they are lactose free and focused on nutrition to a community that lacks protein. Similar goal...increase protein only they do it better.

A little more expensive, but I live so cheap and can still eat a scoop or two a day. I buy whole chickens so that I eat the ligaments and skin and pay lower price per pound. Then an egg in my oatmeal for salt, whipped up with some peanut butter and an apple/cinnamon. After the Kashi scandal I just said **** you to all cereals, and go super oatmeal for first breakfast, and 3 eggs with a potato and bell pepper and spices for second breakfast. Thats already got my day headed right, ideally a power salad that I can sometimes afford, sometimes not, the vegan protein after a workout, and chia seeds for pre workout. Bulk Quinoa with my cheap chicken parts for dinner, and if I could afford it I would probably work some casein in there at night, but I just eat a scoop of peanut butter because its $2 a bottle for the natural no sugar added kind, and I heard raises testosterone. An extra piece of fruit for a snack.

Its a pretty kick ass diet, I lost 70 pounds and went from 22% body fat to 12.5% now only half following it some of the time. Red meat is out of my range, but I always look for that sale item or reduced price cuz its almost expired. Being destitute for a short period has actually forced me to lose weight, when I run out of food I notice my body naturally shuts down and my activity slows, it sucks for a few days but I usually have some potatoes, eggs, or rice to get through the worst times.

Did you drop 10% BF in a single cut or did you have to cut and bulk and cut several times?

As we all know I work a gym(BOOM)

Supplements are complete bullshit. It's a scam. Every year theirs the new and "improved RAGING PUMP MUSCLE SUPPLEMENT" that will make you a monster or have some "pump".

NOONE knows whats going to happen 20-30 years down the road drinking that shit. Best advice I ever got was from some old pro bodybuilders. Drink coffee before your workout. It's pretty much the same damn(and safer) thing. It's caffiene. I get the same rush if I drank superpump or no2 or xplosion or rage or whatever the new garbage that is coming out.

Protein shakes I have stopped taking. It can't be good for your kidneys. I get the drinking lots of water portion, but I don't know how safe all that stuff is again, say, 20-30 years down the road. I just drink chocolate milk post workout, apparently studies are coming out stating that it gives you the same benefits.

Just something to look into.

This sounds kind of stupid. If you are just taking a protein shake (without all the extra crap like creatine), then there isn't anything to worry about. You probably don't understand how the body processes protein if you think it'll hurt your kidneys.

PS, take a look at this thread if you think everything you eat is more 'natural' for your body:

It's the condensed form of it, and the high dosage/scoops people usually take. You don't have to listen to me, I just listen to my body. I don't like to take a chance and osme of the older fellas who have done professional bodybuilding told me to stay away from a lot of stuff; I trust those guys.

Milk is casein protein which means your muscles absorb it over a period of time where as whey protein is absorbed immediately (which is why its recommended to take whey after a workout). Additionally, on a per calorie basis, milk has less protein than a protein shake. Probably about 25g compared to 10g. If you want the same amount of protein, you'd have to drink 2.5x as much milk, which means a lot more calories. If you're cutting, that's not very good.

I've never heard of a professional bodybuilder not taking whey protein. Are your friends on the senior circuit or something?

Your body only uses/digests a finite amount of protein at one time. Most times a big steak has more protein than a serving of protein powder. The trick is to take more small servings of protein.

And I sure as **** aren't gonna to listen to the 'old guys' just because they are old. They probably will tell you it's safe you work with asbestos too... To each their own though.

I just listen because they trained professionally. I rather not take the chance- but that's just me. I have seen NO difference in not taking whey protein anymore in the morning and PWO and just drinking chocolate milk. I'm still throwing up 110 for DB incline and crushing it. That's without all the stuff everyone says you need to take. I'm 175 lbs too. It's not like I'm some mega power lifter.

Are you cutting and bulking or maintaining? If you're consistently cutting and bulking to reduce BF%, I don't see how you could do that successfully without whey. If you're maintaining, yea not as important.

Maintaing. But my strength and muscle size continues. Granted, I have very good genes but I do not feel protein shakes are vital if someone wants to pack on muscle. My look and ideal body has always been the Mark Wahlburg of early 90s. I've achieved it. Pretty happy. But feel in general, that shakes are not a neccesary part of your workout. Again, I can be wrong but that's just my personal opinion.

70 pounds, one cut. Maybe I plateued at 240 for a while. But that used to be my set weight so that makes sense. It took a year, but I wasn't really exercising except for hill sprints once a week to push through the last 30 pounds. So I stepped up activity in a progression.

Once I hit 200 I am back to my full workout routine, and trying to gain about 2-3 pounds of muscle a month. This shouldn't be possible for long, but with my muscle memory I don't know.

"Chocolate milk is a quick and easy post-recovery drink that naturally contains carbohydrates and proteins in the correct ratio."
Milk: Full or Low-Fat?
Research shows that low-fat dairy is more effective at protein synthesis and replenishing net muscle protein balance than high-fat dairy (6). One theory is that the fat is digested at a slower rate than carbohydrates and protein, and thus the fat slows down the delivery of carbohydrates and protein to tissues (6).

"Furthermore, chronic use of low-fat milk as a post-exercise resistance training meal has been associated with a greater reduction in overall body fat, increased muscle growth and greater muscle mass maintenance than soy-based proteins"

Once when i worked at GNC, some kid came in to buy a protein bar and said he didnt want to get too big from it. I laughed.

Only supplements worth taking are a multi-vitamin, protein powders and creatine mono. Buy online.
