What if it's a Yorky?
Imagine having a chihuahua as protection against a bear

It's tough for any dog to adjust back to a normal behavior after being abused. They never fully trust anything and it doesn't matter if it is a child or an animal, the dog will always have a defensive mindset.
If the threat is a rodent, yes. That was the breeding purpose for that breed.
I did it with my pitbull. She was an absolute mess when I got her. I was in between jobs for a month at the time and spent at least 3 hours a day during that time training her. She became one of the most happy, silly, entertaining and sociable dogs I've ever seen, and was still protective but you'd never think that she was abused/neglected as a pup.
a girl i dated adopted a dog that was abused, sweetest dog when it came to people she knew (and it took a couple of visits for the dog to be comfortable with me) but anytime people would come over we had to make sure we put her on a leash. and the ex was never comfortable with the dog being around kids.
Yeah, I'm not contradicting your point, just kinda making the point that there is still probably hope for Rango.
I was just sharing that story, I think in a good home with a lot of work a dog can get that normal temperament back...but I think they will always have a part of them that will be on edge. I think Rango's best hope is to be adopted by a loving well adjusted owner.
**** a chihuahua. Little ******* are ankle biting dicks.

Ok but what if I get a dog that just isn't an asshole.... like naturally it is nice and friendly to people.
I mean I can't have a fucking dog who doesn't try to murder people who come near my home.
Like what if my dog naturally just behaved at the vet.
You are setting me up for a possible major failure.
26 pound cat will **** you up. My 18 pounder was not much fun when he got mad about...We had a cable technician refuse to come in our place because they were afraid of our (at the time) 26-pound maine coon cat.

First thought, who's afraid of a house cat? I looked it up.
Good call by the reasonable cable guys. Why do you keep a Lynx in you home, protection?
Lol nope. He was the runt of the litter when my wife got him from the rescue place
