We have been lucky neither dog has ever snapped at our daughter.

Our bluetick was found as a stray, and we're pretty sure (as was the adoption shelter) that he was badly abused. So I think the dog was pretty much shot. Last we heard he was adopted by a family that had a few acres, and farm animals. Owner ended up putting the dog down because he went after a cow.

So it's more a sacrificial lamb Fat Lou is looking for?

I don't want to speak for LOU, but the video Burque posted indicates the dog could be a large angry distraction to buy LOU some time and the pooch would come out of it unscathed.

Worst case scenario, kids playing in the yard, I'd sacrifice any dog I've ever had to save a kid. I love my dogs, but food chain always wins. If the worst case ever did happen, I hope it would be a $50 Beagle and not a $5.7B wall dog.

That would buy LOU enough time to get the kids inside and arm himself. I'm taking a well armed LOU 10 out of 10 in that fight.

Hell yeah, Lou once knocked a dude out stone cold with a pork chop in his hand

Modern day Samson fantasy, slaying philistines with a pork chop?

I heard about that. Samson once ate the ass of a Philistine. Lou had the chop in his left hand and punched the evil doer with the right.

Ah, and saved his meal. Much better story.

Certainly it was a bone in pork chop right? Much better grip than a boneless pork chop I imagine

The job of a dog is to protect/save his owner.
Don't know about that. When I was a kid, we had a German Shepherd that my parents were forced to put down after he protected us and himself from a neighborhood dog that had gone mad. The mad dog had attacked 2 or 3 other dogs before getting to ours. As we went for help to stop the fight, our dog killed the mad dog and was declared vicious and had to be put down. That was back in the 70s, don't know how that situation would be treated now but sounds like a very thankless job for a dog tasked with protecting/saving.

Imagine having a dog that isn't a pet but a personal defense dog who spends all its days until it dies waiting for the opportunity to "do it's job" and missing out on the opportunity to be around people other than your masters in a social environment LOL!

I may be in the minority but I actually care for my dogs and don't view them as bait for a potential threat.

Look who you are talking to though.

He has a dog - working breed - bred for herding livestock.

He has no livestock. Says his dog's job is to attack "threats" (anyone not a child or his wife)

It's tough for any dog to adjust back to a normal behavior after being abused. They never fully trust anything and it doesn't matter if it is a child or an animal, the dog will always have a defensive mindset.

raises his dog to be aggressive to anyone but himself, his wife, and grandkids....gets confused why his dog is aggressive to a vet.

He is a walking billboard of why someone needs to train their dogs.
