Hawks convince Parise, and Suter to take small deals to have the best chance at winning.

$3.88046M at end of 2011-12
Huet off books = $9.50546M
Brunette off books = $11.50546M
O'Donnell off books = $12.35546M
Morrison off books = $13.60546M
Oduya, Lepisto, Mayers kept, all RFA's kept

Zack Parise signed at $6M cap hit = $7.60546M
Ryan Suter signed at $3.5M cap hit = $4.10546M

Carcillo $0.5M cap hit increase = $3.60546M
Emery $0.55M cap hit increase = $3.05546M

Parise - Toews - Stalberg
Sharp - Kane - Hossa
Bickell - Bolland - Shaw
Carcillo - Kruger - Frolik

Keith - Seabrook
Oduya - Suter
Hjalmarsson - Leddy (Montador could be traded for cap space then)

Crawford
Emery

Obviously this won't happen and I am probable forgetting something, but this is potentially possible mathematically.

  1. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
My knowledge of names is limited in hockey, so I guess I'll say that the defense as a whole could use an upgrade.

I also believe a new competitor for Crawford is needed.

Huet's Cap is already off the books, still being paid by Rocky tho.

Right now gapgeek has the Hawks at about 6.8 mil in cap space for next year, with a slight increase of the cap limit

I was looking through all the UFA's and RFA's last night and was planning on writing an article on it (which I'll probably do later and just post in here - I also plan to look at trade candidates on the Hawks and potential Free Agent targets - all CBA aside).

The best thing about looking at the current UFA/RFA...is that Huet is off the books! Should be interesting to see if Huet comes back to the states or stays in Europe.

Vancouver is going to move Luongo, then sign Huet to be their other Goalie.

Suter signing a deal that has a cap hit of 3.5 million seems about as likely as the Cubs making the playoffs this season.

Burke typically doesn't like long contracts. Whether there's good or bad blood between Vancouver and Toronto doesn't matter much; Loungo to the Leafs is a long shot.

I think Ryan Suter is a pipe dream, considering the Hawks already have Keith and Seabrook getting hefty salaries on the roster.

Three high-priced defensemen = cap hell.

See: Campbell, Brian.

I'd take Luongo in Chicago

No chance.

From the time of his first meltdown, the media and the fan base would turn on him in a heartbeat and run his ass out of town before the season ended.

Not worth the headache.

Price is great.

He's going to cost a fortune and if I was Burke, I'd sheet him with an outrageously stupid offer.

Not worried about his regular season play. A change of scenery may do him good.

Another goalie that could be worth a shot and needs a change of scenery is Steve mason
