I have no issue with the Bears paying Zach Miller 458K, that is such an inconsequential amount of money in terms of the cap. To act like the Bears will get nothing from that 458K is short sighted.

1. He is beloved in the locker room. This is a team that has had locker room issues in the past and who has worked very hard to rebuild a culture that was decimated by Emery, Trestman, Marshall, Bennett. If paying a guy .2% of the salary cap to help in the locker room and smooth the transition for a new coaching staff is worth it in my world.

2. Players see when a team legitimately takes care of players. Players see when a team does something like this and especially the lower end roster guys who do not have lifelong financial security. This will only help in recruiting new players and retaining the ones they have. The positive buzz the Bears generated is going to have an impact on guys.

Are they going to get anything on the field from the 458k? No, but that is not the only place that the money can have an impact.

It is not like the Bears a re a charity. They did not do this for Jerrell Freeman or any recent players that suffered serious injuries that I can think of. They did it for 1 guy, who they clearly value a ton.

Good for Zach Miller making himself that valuable to the team that they want to do right by him. I would guess when he retires in 2019 he will get a job with the team in the media or player development departments.

Good luck in your future endeavors...no longer feel like engaging in meaningless conversation with you. That's about four or five of you useless cronies I have banished forthwith from the castle in the north. Shit for brains.
How about you just stop engaging with everyone. Seems like anyone you engage with gets your shit list. Remove the one common denominator and problem solved.

Very good post. And I wouldn't be surprised to see Zach Miller on the coaching staff.

It is pocket change for great publicity and word around the league.

People think that everyone in the NFL makes life changing money and I am not saying that 800k in a year is not a ton of money, but that is not "done working for life" money. How you are treated, health care provided, family support, possible work after football are a big deal to a lot of guys who do not make life changing money. Those things can swing a decision on a lower end FA or an UDFA.

This is a symbolic move. It is also a very human thing to do, to continue to provide him with the top health care.

I said SHOULD be financial stability but obviously he didn't prepare for a situation like this so the Bears had to bail him out. That sounds like a Zach problem and not a Bears problem.

I mean, I understand the idea that NFL players are in a dangerous profession and they should be preparing for the worst case scenario from a finance point of view. But Miller's injury wasn't the norm, that was him nearly amputating his leg off and so yeah, Miller could have very well prepared everything in advance and still be in a precarious situation. I wouldn't say that's a "Zach problem" as you put it.

Also, on another note, was it wrong when the Bears kept Johnny Knox's contract after his horrific injury? Was that Knox not being well prepared for something to happen? The man nearly became paralyzed but, as you say, it's not the "Bears' problem", was it stupid for them to do that for Knox too?

Listened to Hoge and Jahns podcast this morning and they had an interesting story about Miller. When he injured his foot in his first training camp and was out on IR, rather than just rehab his injury he went to work in the film room. He was basically a quality control coach cutting film and helping the other tight ends on the roster. Having this guy around can only help the team.

Just because it is a business does not mean you need to be a cut throat asshole about every decision. Companies are allowed to make compassionate decisions.

Yep, A few years ago Jason Williams, the Bulls first rnd draft pick ended his career in a motorcycle accident. Bulls honored his contract, pretty sure they didn't have to.

I would actually love if the Bears could get him on the field for a victory formation play so he could get the 700k instead of 458k.

The funny thing is that he calls people dipshits and he cannot realize that he is making fun of himself.

Since all of the "morons" plus other people that have an issue with his stupid posts, they are messing with him or dipping into his stupidity. So while we are dipshits, he is just shit.
