playmaking and ball handling, running an offense, taking charges, grabbing boards, leading the break, finishing the break, double teaming.

Pippen was very good at all of those things but he was nowhere near the tops in the league in any of those categories (except maybe double-teaming).

It was actually late '93- early '95 but yeah. Pippen and Jordan played together so hard that they knew every move that they were going to make. But Jordan DEMANDED the best out of Pippen. He never really respected Pippen until after he left and saw the team have marginal success. Before that he RODE Pippen and helped turn him into the best all-around defender ever. And Pippen benefited a LOT from Jordan's presence on the floor in terms of scoring and offensive efficiency and that was proven after Jordan left in '93.

Pippen was lucky enough to be the athletic wing the Bulls chose.
But it was Pippen's work ethic and mentality that helped him become that too. If he was a mental midget, he would've crumbled under Jordan's pressure.

Give the man credit, you speak of him as if he's Granville Waiters or Dave Corzine, or worse yet, Brad Sellers.

You're better than that Rami, at least I think you are.

I'm sorry to say but it seems like you are praising Pippen for not being a wimp. The guy had it pretty good. Jordan could be an asshole but it takes work ethic to make it in the NBA. You will find a lot more guys willing to take punches along the way because they can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Being a great ball-handler at 6'7'' and being able to run an offense is what made him exceptional. But he's not Chris Paul or John Stockton either.

Leading the league isn't that important, as long as your impact helps your team win.

Not just defense, but playmaking and ball handling, running an offense, taking charges, grabbing boards, leading the break, finishing the break, double teaming.

He did a lot more than just score which is being extremely overrated.

Pippen did what it took to win games and titles. Which allowed Jordan the freedom to be a dominant as he was in his later years when his own athleticism started to decline. Jordan was a monster prior to Pippen's emergence, but once Pippen did emerge, it made Jordan even more dangerous.

im not overrating scoring as much as you think..but keep in mind...to win a game you have to put the ball more times in the basket than the opponent...at the end of the day...to be great you have to be able to carry a team not just from a ballhandling or playmaking perspective(btw he averaged 5.6 APG...good but i dont think he was an exceptional point forward by any means...not to say he wasnt good though)...but also carry the offense by putting the ball in the basket...which is what shows on the scoreboard

plus all those things you mentioned that pippen does..its not like pippen was the best at those or that olajuwon and other big men didnt do any of those things(the ballhandling thing is not what big men like robinson and olajuwon were designated to do)

100% agreed...although i do disagree with you that he was the best player in the NBA at one point....his amazing defense doesnt overcome the fact that he never was a truly great scorer....which is why guys like robinson, olajuwon, jordan, etc. were better

I don't think anyone is downplaying Pippen's role on the team. I am just not going to exaggerate it is all. He was definitely DPOY material. Payton won the award and he was not as versatile a defender as Pippen. As far as Pippen being as important as Jordan...I don't think so...nobody was as important to those championships as Jordan.

A lot of guys helped their respective teams win in those ways though. Stockton won't get the credit like Pippen does despite being a much better passer and nor will Tim Hardaway for being by far the better ball-handler and lots of other guys like them because they didn't have a Michael Jordan on their team like Pippen did to win them multiple titles.

But in the context of the 94 season, one could make the argument for MVP for Pippen.

This idea that Pippen was the rightful MVP of 1994 is absurd. The Rockets depended FAR more heavily on Hakeem's presence that season, on both ends of the floor, AND rebounding, than the Bulls did on Pippen.

its definitely not absurd to think pippen had somewhat of a claim at MVP...but imo pippen was the 3rd best player in the league behind robinson and olajuwon

he may have been the best player on the perimeter in that time...but idk if he was the best player overall

So who were the Bulls going to lean on? Pete Myers?

Come on man.

And argument can be made for Pippen, but if Pippen came through the way Hakeem did, Bulls might have won a title that year. Also Pippen had 2 other allstars on his team...who did Hakeem have? Hakeem is the only player to singlehandedly win a title. You can't name another player that did it. Hakeem was definitely the better player and he deserved the MVP...second best player in the 1990's in my opinion.

But considering the fact that Jordan abruptly "retired" before the start of training camp, and considering the numerous additions to the roster, for Pippen to have the team only lose 2 more games from the season prior, is as good as case as any for MVP.
