Cubs have signed 6th rounder Trey Lang as well. No info on bonus yet, but I am guessing it will be at or slightly below slot.

Glad they picked up Stephen Bruno from UVA. He can really play (trust me I'm a UVA fan)

Top 10 rounds...

Pick - Name - Signing $ - Slot value - +/-

#6 - Albert Almora - unsigned - $3.25M - TBD
#43 - Pierce Johnson - $1.196M - $1.196M - push
#56 - Paul Blackburn - $911,700 - $911,700 - push
#67 - Duane Underwood - unsigned - $769,600 - TBD
#101 - Ryan McNeil - TBD - $471K - TBD
#134 -Joshua Conway - $280K - $343,200 - -$63.2K
#164 - Anthony Prieto - $200K - $257K - -$57K
#194 - Trey Lang - TBD - $192.5K - TBD
#224 - Stephen Bruno - $150K - $148.6K - +$1.4K
#254 - Michael Heesch - $10K - $138.8K - -$128.8K
#284 - Chadd Krist - $10K - $129.6K - -$119.6K
#314 - Chad Martin - $10K - $125K - -$115K

Mcneil and Lang are rumored to have been signed, but I can find nothing on their bonuses. By my determination, the team has $7,933,900 to spend on these 12 picks. Thus far $2,767,700 has been spent. This leaves $5,166,200 to spend on essentially 4 guys without touching the 5% overage. Adding that, the team would have $8,330,595 in total to spend without penalty, leaving $5,562,895 for Almora, Underwood, McNeil, and Lang.

I'll update when I can find info on McNeil and Lang.

Thanks... good to be back. Health went south, and then had a lot of catching up to do when I got back on my feet. Been kinda lurking around here since just before the draft, but haven't posted anything... obviously.

Sorry to hear that man. I hope everything is going smooth for you now and here on out. Really good to have you posting again though since this misery is best shared.

ROFL... and how miserable can this season be when we're putting the "savior" tag on a guy in Rizzo that looks like he's going to be Adam Dunn with real defensive skills at 1B? I'd take that, though, if we can sign someone like Bourn this winter to be a real leadoff man. Let DeJesus hold RF until Jackson can manage to go more than 2 AB without a K in Iowa.

Anyway... back on topic. Why does a guy sign a $1000 bonus? Even at the 22nd round, you'd think he could at least net $10K.

Oh I slapped the hell out of my doc a few times. Bastard should have known I don't do gut wrenching pain for long. Him and his fears I'd get addicted to the morphine drip.... -fidgets suddenly at the though of morphine-

Just a mild case of cancer that should have killed me with how long I ignored the signs... no big deal. Dealing with it well now. All signs now are pointing to recovery, as long as the FDA doesn't ban any more beau-coup expensive meds.

Rizzo doesn't have Dunn's raw power in my estimation. He also, I don't think, will have the extreme walk/strikeout rates that Dunn has. I am hoping for a .270 batting average and 30 homeruns, but I wouldn't be surprised if he turns out to be more in the .250 range with fewer homeruns.

Was the guy that signed for 1K a college senior? My only guess is he was really anxious to be a pro.

Yeah, I agree with most of that. I kinda see Rizzo as a .260-.280 guy with 30 or so dingers... probably around 120 Ks and 60 or so BB... OBP about 80-100 points higher than his BA. He takes a lot of pitches though... and in the Cubs' lineup, he'll be pitched around a lot. Watching him play on MiLB.tv in Iowa... looks like a very good defender. Still needs some polish there, though.

Eddie Orozco, senior out of CU-Riverside. $1K... just wow. But honestly... at this point in my life.... I'd get all giddy with questions of "You're gonna pay me to play baseball... really?" If I even got the phone call.

I think that is a fair assessment. I honestly only know three things about Rizzo watching him in Iowa.
1-He will take a lot of pitches
2-He has a nice glove at 1B
3-He can pull the ball a long way

Beyond that I won't guarantee anything about his production.

I remember that guy now. Yeah there is zero buzz around him. Basically he choice was either sign for whatever the Cubs paid him, go play Indy ball for probably less, or hang it up. It isn't shocking to see him take the first option.

Pretty much. Still not a fan of his long swing, but he has shortened it a bit with Buckner's and Rowson's help. We'll see how it goes in about a month or so.

Now watch.... this is the kid that will emerge as the big signing from this draft because everyone's so down on him. Of course, after the Cubs trade him for a 31 year-old RP this time next year. ;)

I wouldn't mind trading for a 31 year old RP in the BoSox minor leagues ;)

Mariners Sign Mike Zunino: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com

With another underslot signing, I'm speculating that Almora may be losing leverage as the Cubs pretty much hold all of it and he'll likely sign at or below slot. The Cubs have nothing to lose but that $3.25MM at the #6 slot because they saved so much by underslotting guys from round six on. Someone check my math but I think that's about right. Basically the Cubs should have signed all of their first 10 round picks (including sandwich guys) except Almora and haven't gone significantly overslot on their 11th and later picks.
