I would think a restructure comes into play after year 5 if we assume a structure like the one I posted. The fact is 17 and 18 million for a franchise QB is really not that much if he is performing like he should.

If the 54 million is SB then it is more than a 3 year deal. That would equate to 7.7 million a year which means getting rid of him after 3 years would result in almost 32 (4 years left * 7.7 million) in dead cap space.

The guaranteed money can only be spread over the first five years and I'm pretty sure it's been reported that it will be spread over the first three.

and 5 years from now $25M won't seem like crazy money. Broadcast deal does up and with it, the cap and players salaries.
.

Yep. The only way it doesn't work out is if Cutler completely bombs in the early years of the deal and refuses a pay cut since you can't really cut him before year 5 without the unallocated signing bonus eating up too much cap space.

Although still think we restructure in year 5 similar to how Brady has done so for the Pats.

I sure don't. But there's a reason why the Bears have only won one superbowl and have been a pretty mediocre franchise for decades, they tend to botch these kind of decisions.

I thought they botched them by never having a long term QB.

Lol you're so stupid that you don't realize when your foot is in your mouth. This is now the second time you've essentially admitted that having Cutler and annoying those who aren't sold on him is more important to you than the success of the Bears. Hilarious! Desperado gets somewhat of a pass because he's a college age dumbass with an insecurity problem. What's your excuse?
lmao insecurity problem? Dude, I'm not t he one wishing harm on some dude who plays for a team I like. You're a nut job. Aren't you from europe or something? It would explain your pompous smug attitude.

Considering Schaub got 16.5 Mil this year, Eli got 16.5 Mil, Ryan got 19 Mil, Flacco got 20 Mil, and Marc Sanchez got 13.5 Mil... it's not as bad as it looks for a three year deal... which is really what it boils down too... 18X3=54

I wonder how many thought they overpaid for Forte?

Anyone want to add some perspective and show the Romo, Stafford, Ryan and Flacco contracts? Anyone think that might just be the cost of a 'good' QB?

The problem, and I said this with both guys, was ridiculous contracts given to other players. Romo, Ryan, Stafford for Cutler & Williams for Forte. Once that's set, its hard to do anything about it. I don't think It would've been good to let either walk.

Remember this Vash...Any heat that you and some of the other Cutler haters are getting today was all brought on by your incessant hijacking of threads with bashing Cutler in mind..This went on for months and now the piper is here..There are many posters here that share your opinion that arent taking heat. WHY?..Cause they didnt turn every thread imaginable into a Cutler bashing thread. They stated their opinion moved on..There were just a few of you "special" cases that insisted on running your mouths day in and day out in every thread no matter how remote it was, and enjoying yourselves while getting quite a kick out of it...Well now, the kick is in your ass...Take it like a man, and dont be a Queen

You are the one who took every criticism of Cutler as some personal affront to your mom. I thought you had finally come around, but now that Jay's been re-signed like we knew he would as of the last couple weeks of the season, you're in full vainglorious mode as a top notch douchebag, jousting at windmills as if you were Don Quixote, all because you really wanted to tell people off really bad and facts and reason and rationale be damned.

You are showing yourself to really be a real Cro-Magnon ignorant bastard of inbred levels.

Pretty much done with you. I actually thought you could be reasonable. That was the error in my judgment, not anything to do with Cutler.

because Jay isn't making minimum wage, and even if he was guys like Spartan and Bearmick would still find some reason to hate on it.

You can't please everyone, and no one should spend their lives trying to.

But the problem with this argument is....

in hindsight, those contracts are grossly inflated and may be proven to be mistakes...

True, but we'll at least have 4 or 5m less a year for the next 3. That's a decent FA that a bad defense could use. If we were getting 126m dollar play from our QB this wouldn't be an issue, but we're not. He's still the same 15th ranked QB he was yesterday, only now eating up alot more cap space.
You look at FA to much. This isn't the NBA where FA will win you championships. In the NFL you need to draft good. That's where it's at.

Yes, it's truly a sad night in Meatball Nation. Let's hope they have plenty of gravy to drown themselves in.
