I hope that they draft someone this year or next to start grooming for that point but if they don't I am hoping for a restructure around year 4

Yeah, agreed. I wondered about the draft just gone. Not saying either Ryan Nassib or Landry Jones would have been QBs Emery/Trestman would have had interest in and both happened to go in the 4th round. They didn't fall. I would expect something similar this draft or next. I'm excited. Certainly no Dan LeFevour (sp?)

Well, all I'll say is you better hope that he plays to a level in accordance with this insane contract, because you're setting yourself up for a lot of abuse if he doesn't improve. A day of fun for seven more years of mediocrity - I hope you really enjoy today.
I really am enjoying today..and if Cutler stinks the place up..I will say so right here and wont be ashamed to say so

btw, OP, either the FO really cares about what fans and media think, or they don't. Can't have it both ways.

I wonder how many thought they overpaid for Forte?

Anyone want to add some perspective and show the Romo, Stafford, Ryan and Flacco contracts? Anyone think that might just be the cost of a 'good' QB?

Remember this Vash...Any heat that you and some of the other Cutler haters are getting today was all brought on by your incessant hijacking of threads with bashing Cutler in mind..This went on for months and now the piper is here..There are many posters here that share your opinion that arent taking heat. WHY?..Cause they didnt turn every thread imaginable into a Cutler bashing thread. They stated their opinion moved on..There were just a few of you "special" cases that insisted on running your mouths day in and day out in every thread no matter how remote it was, and enjoying yourselves while getting quite a kick out of it...Well now, the kick is in your ass...Take it like a man, and dont be a Queen

We are still going to have quite a bit of money to spend in free agency. It is about the cap hit now how much the contract is signed for. We have the best in the business in Cliff Stein in working the salary cap.

True, but we'll at least have 4 or 5m less a year for the next 3. That's a decent FA that a bad defense could use. If we were getting 126m dollar play from our QB this wouldn't be an issue, but we're not. He's still the same 15th ranked QB he was yesterday, only now eating up alot more cap space.

I actually agree with this post.

I always felt that they will take a QB in the 4th or 5th round this year and/or next year to see if they can strike gold.....or they will invest in a higher round pick (2nd or 3rd) in the third year of Cutler's new deal.

Either way, the last two years of this new deal will definitely get re-structured down the line.

I wonder how many thought they overpaid for Forte?

4 years, 32 million with 17 guaranteed for one of the best all purpose backs in the business.

7 years, 126 million with 54 guaranteed for an inconsistent, injury prone turnover machine.

Great analogy.

I sure don't. But there's a reason why the Bears have only won one superbowl and have been a pretty mediocre franchise for decades, they tend to botch these kind of decisions.

"they tend to botch these kind of decisions" Who is they? Virginia McCaskey? Because I'm pretty sure this is the first time Phil Has signed a QB to a long term contract.

^This... I don't understand why the "boo butthurt" crowd is still flipping out. He is the Bear's QB going forward whether you like him or not, and the dollar amount leaves the Bears money to fix other needs this offseason.

because Jay isn't making minimum wage, and even if he was guys like Spartan and Bearmick would still find some reason to hate on it.

Longer and more money than I would have hoped, but you support the Bears through thick and thin. Just hope the Bears understand how important the backup QB position is going to be for the team from now on.

This should be a good offense for several years. Possibly the best we have ever seen here. People need to chill out a bit wow.

If his contract is structured anywhere like this I would hope that after year 3 and before year 5 that the Bears will have someone on the roster to replace Cutler or they will be actively trying to restructure his deal

I would think a restructure comes into play after year 5 if we assume a structure like the one I posted. The fact is 17 and 18 million for a franchise QB is really not that much if he is performing like he should.

Basically this is a three year, $54 mil deal. After that you can get out without much if any repercussions.

If the 54 million is SB then it is more than a 3 year deal. That would equate to 7.7 million a year which means getting rid of him after 3 years would result in almost 32 (4 years left * 7.7 million) in dead cap space.

I want to know the numbers of the other two signings as well to see how all this is impacting the cap.
